Journeys Of Dalorn 02: The Pine Forest

  • I ran to the forest as fast as my legs could take me. I rushed to find sanctuary within the dense, ancient trees of these woods. The day was slowly wasting away as I assessed the situation, as my mother had told me. She was a... mage? Farmer's wife? Witch even? Well, I know she was a harsh, shrewd woman who knew a few spells, met up with my simple father, and started a family. She raised and taught me. While my father laboured in the fields, she showed me how to start fires from my fingertips, conjure a hovering light, and take control of anything life throws at me. Anyway, I saw signs of a large animal that had passed through my area not long ago. I observed the scratches on tree trunks, the highest being about a meter and a half high, about three fourths of my height. There was the stench of rotting flesh nearby, indicating that the animal had to have been carnivorous, and a musky odor I could not place. I knew I was in jeopardy. It was already dark by the time that I fled from there in terror, trying to climb a tree. I was stupid in the rush of the moment and conjured an orb of white light. At that time, the bear saw me. It scared me half to death, and I leaped an adrenalin fueled leap to the branch nearest me, but could not avoid a scratched leg from a quicker yet bear. I winced in pain, scrunching up my face to an almost unrecognizeable grimace, and swung my leg beyond the creature's reach. At that moment I searched for that light in my mind that holds my power, avoiding the dangerous pitfalls of doubts and worries and memories past that are locked in my mind. It, like always, took seemingly hours to find this power, although in actuality only milliseconds. The power flowed through my body, fiery orbs condensing in my hands. I saw the fear in the eyes of the poor beast, before sending its soul to Oblivion. I survived the night, wounded and tired, but very much alive, which is more than I can say for my foe. I drift off to sleep, bleeding and tired, knowing I had a very bad day.

    Well, I franked this out
