Guards in The Reach won't leave a Dragonborn alone!

  • I think I got the Cidhna Mine glitch.  The one where, after you've completed the quest, escaped the mine and been pardoned, etc., the guards still attempt to arrest you as they do when you first start the quest.

This is especially galling because I killed Madanach, the King in Rags!  So I am definitely NOT down with the Forsworn.  Yet, because of this glitch, guards keep on saying they're going to send me to the mine for conspiring with the Forsworn.  Even when I acquiesce, it doesn't help.  They don't actually send me to the mine.  The conversation stops only to be restarted again.

So if I want to do anything in Markarth, I have to do it with a bunch of guards attacking me.  It was actually kind of funny during the Dark Brotherhood questline, where you have to find the contact of the Gourmet in the Underkeep and get a name from him.  I did all that while the Guards attacked me.  (Luckily I have Legendary Dragonscale armor, so the attacks didn't matter much.)  They're almost like buzzing, natting flies that constantly surround you.  Then I have to run out of the city and ride Shadowmere far away enough to fast-travel.

    Ugh.  Markarth sucks.

I think there's a way around it on the PC. UESPWiki has the details. But I play on Xbox, and sadly, as far as I know there's no way to fix it. Maybe Bethesda will address it eventually, but till then my level 56 warrior/conjurer will be a persona non grat...  more
