Journal of Avidius the Wood Elf 2: Down Time Plan

  • You might think Riverwood is a cosy, laid-back and kind-hearted little town, would you? Wrong, it's just small and shaggy, filled with nosy people. I need to get out of here. Which doesn't seem easy, though, as the people here tend to interfere my business all the time.

As soon as I had swigged fourth cup of awful tasting wine a guy called Sven came to me and thought I could help him with his love issues. Where did he get that from!? He gave me some fake letter to his loved one, supposedly written by this other guy. If one thing my father taught me it was to respect the ladys. So I went to Camilla and told what he's up to. Camilla was extremely pleased and offered me some gold – which I think was only fair. She also offered me her hand, which I politely refused. Although meeting Camilla and his brother Lucan was the first good thing that had happened for me for a long time – apart from escaping the dragon –  I was not planning to settle in Riverwood. I had hard time to understand why those fine imperial merchants had settled for life here.

Camilla's lover Faendal was so pleased with my honesty, that he insisted to follow me. Follow me where? To Imperial City? I didn’t want to gather group of kinsman around me, no-one would take a bunch of bosmers seriously. But because he was so eager to do something for me, I took him to investigate the old mine I saw on my way here. It felt weird being with a kinsman again.

I gladly let Faendal take bandits, that occupied the mine, down with his bow and concentrated on looking for valuables. We found some nice trinkets and left pile of bloody corps behind. Faendal acted like this was perfectly normal. I informed him he had been living among these nords way too long.

    - Where are we going next? he asks.

    - We are not going anywhere. You are going back to Camilla, and I’ll stay here to smell evening breeze.

Once Faendal was out of the way, I picked up a pick-axe and returned quietly into the mine. The thought of mining for living ripped my heart, but I needed some coin to start with. It took me all night to get enough to sell. At the morning I went back to town and pretended I’d found everything.

Now I have some gold. And a plan: Next time I’m going anywhere near Imperial City, I will be doing it with a style. No more one-man-horse! No more pathetic coin purse that anyone can steal! Next time it will be a ship, maybe my own, or at least a fancy carriage. And some servants. Perhaps with a aristocratic wife even?

When I journey to Imperial city, I’ll do so as the richest man in Skyrim! How hard can it be.

...if you like those traits in a character, I wonder how your friends are like?

It's official: I now like bosmer. Or at least this bosmer. With a dislike of manual labour and a vaguely misantropic attitude, what's not to like?

That's true! It would be interesting to make money by selling and buying only! just travel from town to town with a carriage and meet other merchants. I've never had the speech skill 100, so I don't really know, though..

I wish we could play as merchant characters, not worrying about exploring dungeons and slaying dragons, but i feel your character will have some dirt and blood in his hands before getting the position he seeks.
