Profile: Lilia, Master of Rider

Ah, so yeah. Honestly this is probably the first piece of work that I'm truly nervous about posting for ages. I've never even tried to write a Roleplaying Profile and honestly haven't had much to do with that group (something I do always wish was a lie) but here I am, ready to try something new.

If you have no idea who Lilia is, then I recommend heading over to Chapter 1 of my story Fate/Elder Scrolls where Lilia Marich is officially introduced briefly. That same chapter features Rider but really for him I'd recommend heading over to my Character Build, Rider to get a better idea of his character and all that.

But for those that don't want to go on an adventure across the Vault. Then a very brief explanation is that Lilia is a Magus, and a Master in the Holy Grail War who summoned the Heroic Spirit Rider (Morihaus) to fight against other Heroic Spirits in a war to win the Heaven's Feel. Or, she's a mage or whatever word you want to use and has under her limited control a spirit of an ancient hero and together they're fighting in a small scale war around Tamriel in order to win an item that gives them literally anything they want. Well a single wish that can do anything that they can think of at least. But this profile doesn't require you to read my builds and stories, I mean there are references but I believe that it's better to explain things three times rather than expect people to read dozens of hours of content.  It does require a little bit of knowledge on the mechanics and world of Fate but I explain most of that either here or in Deeb's Project Thing.

So the general idea of this Profile isn't to document everything about Lilia leading up to where Fate/Elder Scrolls starts. I'm going to be revealing most of her backstory and recent past in that, and aiming this at a more...in-depth explanation what makes her different from a normal College of Winterhold mage, and delivering a little information about the Fate parts of Fate/Elder Scrolls in a way that's hopefully informative and interesting to read. It is as I said, a stand alone thing, but I'd love it if you go check out all those links as well.

"Lilia Marich is not a normal person. Even if you ignore the fact that she can shoot beams of pure Lightning and cause explosions with just a few quick words. Oh and don't forget her obsession with kicking people that anger her, oh yeah there's no way a rage that intense can be considered normal. Especially when all you did is tell the tru... Ow, fine, fine. I'll tell them nice things just stop throwing fireballs at me. Look, the tiny lass might be a bit of a bitch at times, but she's not too bad for a Magus. I've never seen her be needlessly cruel or cut up someone as an experimentation, hell I've never seen her sacrifice a baby and I've heard that's what some of these nuts do. Oh and she's damn good in battle, couldn't ask for a better Master to be honest" - Rider, Servant of Lilia Marich.

    Name: Lilia Marich

    Sex: Female

    Race: Breton

Class: Noble Magus (Destruction, Enchanting, Conjuration, Restoration and Speech)

As a Magus, Lilia can best be described as a typical noble, or at least a Noble Magus. She's fine with getting her hands a little dirty but generally prefers to fight with her rather wide range of spells and the few artifacts she's managed to create in her life. Her spells mostly come in the form of support spells from Restoration and Conjuration but a few more offensive spells are needed for anyone who's going to fight with magic (Duh)

Alignment: Neutral Evil (ish) but really would consider herself closer to Lawful Neutral

If anything describes a Magus in a few simple words, it's the term. "A Magus walks with Death". It's simply a fact of their life, that anything and everything can and will attempt to kill them at some point. There magic can implode within their bodies, killing them instantly (or extremely painfully...usually the latter), they can be killed by enemy Magi or a hundred other things. When your life is in constant peril, most people do things that they wouldn't if they were simply living normally, and when your entire family has been raised that way for generations...Well it's almost impossible not to percieve of the world differently. For a Magus, Lilia is considered incredibly soft-hearted for the simple fact that she prefers not to kill (or torture, plenty of Magi love that one) and is relatively sane. However, any Magus is still not what normal people would consider a shining example of morality.

Title(s): Master of Rider, First-Rate Magus, Heir of the Marich Family

    Age: 23

Goals and Aspirations: Reach the Akashic Record, Enhance her families place in the world, Surviving, Becooming personally famous

    Appearance

    Skin Tone: Extremely pale

    Height: 5 foot 3

Weight: 43 KG (a little less than 100 pounds)

    Eyes: Blue

    Hair: Short blond hair

    Apparel:

Tattoos/Scars: No scars but has a magical tatoo on her right hand that's bright red and resembles a double-headed axe.

Weapons: Magic, Witty Banter, perhaps her Intelligence (and of course, the ability to enhance her kicks to a level that can shatter bone...yeah, that last one is just...not great to have to deal with)

So, how do I describe the life of a Magus, well the life of a regular Magus honestly really isn't all that different to what you'd expect from the College of Winterhold or the old Mages Guild. Quite honestly, it's rather simplistic for most people, you learn, study, practise and become a stronger spellcaster and then eventually pass your knowledge down your family line to your heir in the form of a Magical Crest. That crest is rather important you see, for it can store the Magical Circuits and Spells of a Magus and as it's passed from person to person, allows the wielder to gain an increasing supply of Mana (or access to more Mana, it is so very difficult to simplify things for commoners) and more Mysteries so that they're more powerful and in turn can pass the Magical Crest on with another generations worth of power and knowledge. When you have families like mine which have untouched lines of succession (and a completely unharmed Magical Crest) for sixteen generations, well it allows us somewhat of a head start over new Magi.

Because of this, there is a very real difference between a Noble Magus and any other spellcaster. They have years, possibly decades of power to use and just as much information forever at their fingertips. It allows them to dedicate more time to new branches of study, or mastering things that maybe an ancestor had only been sub-par at. We still have to work extremely hard to get anywhere, but there is no doubt in my mind that a Noble just has a head start that is literally impossible for someone of lower standing to catch up to.

Ah, but I suppose that really means nothing to you if you don't understand the end-goal of all Magi. Essentially we want to reach the Root of All Things, or the Swirl of the Root, the Akashic Records. Theoretically, it is believed that the Akashic Records hold all of the knowledge that has ever existed or could ever exist. It is a place that exists outside of the world, outside of parralel worlds and outside of time. Just think about that for a m minute would you, the ability to access all knowledge. Not everything that has ever been thought or exists, but literally everything. It's just, staggering, even after 16 years of Magecraft I'm still blown away by what we're trying to do.

And while I do understand that most of what we do is, perhaps a tad...frowned upon by lesser people, I hope that this is understandable now. We seek everything, and some of us will do anything to reach it. I, believe that something so noble should not be reached by ignoble methods, and that sets me far above some of the more dishonourable Magi that populate this realm.

    - Lilia Marich, Heiress of the Marich Family

Ah Lilia, excellent, excellent. I nearly thought you would be late but, tardiness never was a strong suit of yours.  Now while I personally believe you know everything I have to teach you, I did hear that you were conducting a bit of an experiment in regards to trying to teach a normal Spellcaster about how a Magus' life and magic operates, essentially trying to become a bit of an academic instructor yourself. A marvelous idea, though honestly teaching one of those barbaric Spellcasters the fine art of Magecraft seems like a waste of time to me, but nontheless I am prepared to scribe an entire, well a condensed version of what makes Magecraft different.

The first thing, is that 'magic' or spellcasting is a relatively simplistic art that is more akin to passing down a basic concept and pouring a bit of willpower into shaping the spell. Just about anyone can heal themselves with a...Restoration spell or cast a weak fire spell, and while these spells might be strong they are. How do I put it delicately, they are simple, temporary and have no real diversity when compared to real Magecraft. A Magus certainly could use similar mysteries to that of a Spellcaster, a Fireball spell is a particular favourite  of just about anyone with a Fire Element but the difference between the two would be the amount of control the user has. A Spellcaster flings the spell out and lets it explode, but a proper Magus would be capable of editing the mystery, changin git to a time-delayed Fireball or to a Fireball that explodes inwards on a smaller target or something the size of a flea that is rock hard rather than simple magic and fire. The main differnece is always that Magecraft is more adjustable, more fluid and is entirely based upon the user's creativity, intelligence, skill, hard work and lineage.

That is where the difference begin but...getting into the culture, that would just take years of explanation so, rather than give the full break down I'll do what I can to make it a tad more concise than my usual lectures. A Magus walks with death, a sentence that I'm almost certain you've heard by now (if not young Spellcaster, give Lilia a stern talking to) and one that defines everything about us. We know that our death can come at any moment, and that if we're too soft or too easy-going or anything, then it's almost guarenteed that we'll die a quick death, which wouldn't just be...usually quite painful, but also it could ruin everything our families have worked for, it could reveal some of the true horrors of what Magecraft is possible, causing, quite honestly anyone to come down and try to eradicate us. A single mistake, a single moment of weakness can mean death for us, or much worse and so we try and erase that potential for weakness. We believe in the idea that results are worthwhile no matter what, even if it means my death, or your death, or the death of a hundred people, as long as there are results, then it is worthwhile.

So you do hear stories. Of Vorin the Dead Apostle who turned an entire town into undead, zombies if you will, simply to test what would happen to each race and what would happen if he burned them, caused them pain, anything in order to try and evolve them through torture. You also hear of Moari the Teacher, a man who skinned one of his own students alive in order to study a unique set of runes that seemed to be grafted onto his bones. There are terrible, terrible people in the Association, but...Moari advanced the study of Falmeric Runes forward for the first time in six generations and thus was given praise, a noble title and wealth beyond most people's wildest dreams.

That is Magecraft. That, is the Life of a Magus.

Lagruth Lior Morvari - Instructor and Steward of the Marich Family.

Traditionally, you'll find that families tend to focus on one particular branch of Magecraft rather than branch out continiously, at least as their 'mark' I suppose. Some families are known for their powerful fire mysteries and tend to try and focus on. Ahem, breeding powerful Fire Elementals in order to keep gaining power and resources that will allow them to create new, or more streamlined spells in that particular field. However, it would obviously be beyond stupidity to only focus on a single power. Imagine the amount of ease it would take to create counter-spells if you knew the family you were fighting only knew water spells, a simple Anti-Liquid Barrier would destroy their offensive and defensive powers and make it rather easy to just box them in and let them drown in their own magic...Ah, theoretically that is, not that you'd ever need to do something so barbaric.

No, while a family may be known for a single field of Magecraft, an individual is always encouraged to have a secondary source of study, or a field that allows them to do something unexpected. Now of course you do have a few families that have more fluid basic fields, like Runecraft, which allows for a bit more diversity but the Marich family focuses on the creation of animate constructs, in order to fight for us. Essentially think of it as a blend between Dwemer Technology, Conjuration and Illusion but I suppose that's a relatively simplistic explanation, but I'm hardly stupid enough to explain everything about my Mysteries to people I don't know. Regardless, now we focus on these for the simple fact that it allows us to be slightly safer in combat, some may call it cowardice but considering we're one of the three oldest Magi family and the only group that has never lost it's Crest, well I'd like to think that intelligence is better than being a bit of an idiot and rushing into combat.

Ah, now I'm off track. You see, the issue with this is that there's no really easy way to pass this skill down. I mean, we can rather easily write down different instructions for our constructs, and the spells we use to create them but that's really it. I mean, an idiot with those notes is still an idiot. It's because of this that are family doesn't pass on the Family Crest to the oldest or a male or anything, it's simply the person that the current owner of the Crest decides would best use it. At the age of 16 all of the younger members of my family (or at least the ones that won't embarass themselves and the family) and branches will gather together and compete in order to win the Magical Crest of the Marich Family. I am the best of my family, there was no doubt in anyone's mind before that competition and absolutely none afterwards and because of that, I am to be the next Lady Marich.

Ah right, I suppose I did get a little carried away there. My personal form of Magecraft is the manipulation of speed. It's a tad different from controlling time or anything like that, but essentially I can speed things up or slow them down. Of course it's easiest on my own body, or the constructs I make and...well no, it'd be best if I didn't speak of the weaknesses too much, wouldn't want to allow anyone to abuse them now would I. Regardless, it makes me a deadly Magus and thus a credible threat and protector of my family.

Lilia Marich, future Lady of the Marich Family, Master of the Servant Rider.

     Closing Notes

No fancy banner for this section, just the words. Anyway, I can't end this without giving thanks to Zonnonn for all of his help and encouragement while I was writing this one, I literally wouldn't have been able to complete it without that help so...yeah thanks mate. Amadeus is another person recieving my thanks for his support while this was in the Workshop.

I think that's all really. I did want to address the fact that I know this isn't really a typical Roleplaying Profile but ah. It's my twist on the content I guess, or really just a way for me to get out of things I don't think I'm good at (describing characters, building complex family trees and supporting characters) and focusing on what I am good at (explaining things :P).

Finally thank you for reading this (yeah you with the...face?). Don't forget to go check out other RP Profiles while your here, mine is definitely not anywhere close to the best (or even the top 50) so you know, go read some really high quality content and maybe post your own :D Bugger, there's the host in me, can't stop trying to get people posting content even in my own content in another group :P

Woo! Good to see this up mate, its a brilliant example of how a profile should look, and its got some interesting homebrew stuff added on as well. And thanks for the mention man, I like to help where I can.

But can I be really, really picky and ask for you to change the title just to 'Profile Lilia, Master of Rider' please? You know, organisation and all that stuff.
