The host position has now been filled, but you may still attempt this Field Test for fun.

Hi there Tips and Tricks group!

I am in the process of searching for a new Tips and Tricks host at the moment. While I could just ask people to contact me and apply for the role, I thought I'd have some fun with it and revive an old event created by Ponty and Teccam.

To apply, you will need to:

    1. Send me a message telling me why you would like to host the group and what you plan to do as host. (add me as a friend to send me a message)

    2. Complete the challenge below by 17th December.

    Challenge: Naked and Afraid

Objective: Create a new character and complete the main quest line as quickly as possible with 0 armor rating.

    Restrictions:

    • The challenge is complete once you unlock the call of Valor Shout and save the game.
    • You may not use any form of AR, including armor, mage armor, lord stone, wards or any other form of AR through the duration of the challenge.

When you are done, post up the following:

    • The amount of hours listed on the completed save profile
    • The difficulty you completed the challenge on. (The higher the difficulty, the more impressed I will be)
    • A run down of the methods you used to complete the challenge. (The more interesting or unique the better)
    • Particular parts you had difficulty with.

Until a new host is selected I will be monitoring the Tips and Tricks group. I'm going off to bed now so I will answer any questions in the morning.

    Testers:

    Dragonborn1421: 5 hours 33 minutes and 51 seconds  Legendary/Master

    Caesar Strong-Heart 5 hours 16 minutes and 39 seconds Master/Expert

Alastor 5 hours, 3 minutes, and 29 seconds Legendary

Nikolaj Poulsen 4 hours 20 minutes 21 seconds Legendary

    Sounds like an interesting challenge!

Is blocking (with weapons) considered a form of AR?

Also, what are the responsibilities, duties, rights, perks, honors, and titles of a host?

  • November 29, 2014

Blocking is a different mechanic than armor, so in game terms it isn't.

  • November 29, 2014

    Ain't very unique though.

    Blocking is okay.

As host you will be expected to manage the group making sure everything remains organised. You will also be responsible for trying to encourage new content through contests and events, as well as selecting content to be featured on the front page. You are also given access to the Elder Council group where you can have more direct communication with other site hosts and admins.

The aim is to complete the challenge as quickly as possible.

However, someone who takes longer but finds a more imaginative way to complete the challenge will impress me more than someone who does something we've all seen before.

Well this sounds interesting ill join the, uhh test. By the way what about things like Beserker Rage, it halves all damage so technically it's sort of armour.

Those are okay. As far as I am aware they don't actually give you any armor rating so you can use them, though if I am wrong feel free to correct me.

They don't, I was just making sure it fit within the rules.

It took me 5 hours 33 minutes and 51 seconds to finish the Main Quest on Legendary/Master Difficulty, I started on Legendary but once I got to the first fight with Alduin I decided to turn it down but then picked back up on Legendary after that so really one fight on Master. Well I'm a little early, we've all still got plenty of time left, who knows I may repeat this now that I've got a better idea, probably not actually I enjoyed this a lot. Alright so first off is tactics, now I'm probably not going to gain a lot of points in term of unique combos or strategies in fact I went with an efficacy over complexity route (well would have been more efficient if I took 1 minute to get rid of Rockjoint wouldn't it) My tactics were all based around my chosen Race (Argonain) and its abilities. Histskin, God this was the most important thing, I started off using it by itself but then combined it with Potion of Regeneration to be able to survive (probably taking 20 damage in the end) one of Alduin's Fire Breath shouts for the whole duration, on master yeah but hey that's still pretty good. The water breathing was great for early-game but was pretty useless after the Thalmor Embassy, well that's not true Blackreach was great, avoiding every single enemy, I took One-Handed and Restoration as my only skills (well I used Flames a little) basically I did this so I wouldn't become OP at anything, no crafting, sneak or archery so every fight was a challenge. One-Handed, well I chose it to be able to use one weapon and a spell, allowing quick recovery but also to get faster swing times. I went maces for Bone-breaker which was sort of useful even though I only got the second perk. Restoration was literally the only thing keeping me alive throughout this play-through I stuck with basic healing until dashing through Blackreach and then picked up Fast Healing so I could well heal faster. My gear was pretty sweet because I managed to pick up the Novice Hood pretty early and then Alvor was kind enough to give me a Ring with Fortify Magcika 20 on it. So I ran through the whole game never spending any points towards Magicka and instead focusing on health (mostly) and Stamina (a little) I also managed to get the Cultist Robes fairly easy and I found a fortify One-Handed Necklace early (ish). So all in all my tactic was fight when I have to, basically Alduin and any indoor area, so pretty much the whole quest, and spam Become Ethereal any other time (Blackreach I'm looking at you a little) So I could get through faster without having to worry about the fight I may be getting in at the end. Another strategy I used was Scrolls and Staves. Basically I collected these when possible (probably cost me time but It allowed me to survive) I didn't but them, actually I don't think I bought anything. Anyway these were my HOLY SHIT IM SCREWED I JUST USED HISTSKIN AND ALDUIN IS STILL BEING A MASSIVE A**HOLE. Yep those were my words at one point. So yeah any staff, any scroll, he'll any potion or an Ingredient I knew the effects was useful in some way. My main points of trouble were. Ustengrav (spelling?) Man the first bits of this were hard mainly because I hadn't figured out my strategies yet, dealing with the Mages and Draugr in the first two rooms were a real pain especially when I tried letting them duke it out, nope the Draugr one easily and still kicked my ass. I got through after that easily enough and picked up my Neckalce. Thalmor Embassy: Sneaky, sneak. Nope found by the first enemy. The threat of three or four Mages coming at me with melee backup was incredibly daunting and I especially had trouble with the ones that used Frost, no Stamina, meant less damage.I died three times before making it to the Interrogation Chamber. Of course this is where I found my Histskin+Regen Potion combo so in the end it was pretty much worth it, oh and I got my Elven Mace. Alduin: Yeah I always give this guy shit but the first fight after learning Dragonrend was horrible, I died four or five times even with Lydia as backup. My main problem was him being able to tank everything I threw at him, and of course I had Rockjoint. This meant he lasted way longer then Histskin. My second fight was easier only died twice and I mainly chalk this up to my liberal use of scrolls. Call of Arms, Fireball, basically whatever I had on me was thrown at Alduin, of course I sat back and Dragonrend locked him so the others could wipe him out. So yeah these have been my struggles throughout the journey, thanks Twisted for having this little test it was a lot of fun, makes me struggle playing anything lower then Expert now so thanks for that.
