That spell chain special move is quite clever. I'll have to try that out sometime. I wonder if the tentacles from miraaks staff would trigger the explosion. If so, one could wall off an enemy's advance, and cast flaming familiar repeatedly as they collide uselessly against the wall of tentacles.

Thanks :). Only downfall is that you cant see anything for like 5 seconds.
Just checked what you suggested, but it seems like the tentacles on the ground is a 'smart' effect that doesn't hurt followers/summones. The active use of the staff on the Familiar however, does.
The in-combat poison cloak from the Ebony Mail doesn't activate it.
The staff of Magnus (and every other staff that is directly used on the Familiar) works.
The tentacle explosion from Miraak's robes doesn't work.
All status-effects (like illusion spells) and magelight will also detonate the Familiar.
Soultrap doesn't.
Healing Hands does.
Wall effects do not, but the direct use on the Familiar does.
