    The Mad Ramblings of Lorkhan

When I was young my Uncle once told me a tale, and one that I would remember forever for it changed the way I saw the world and how I viewed the Creation Story. Whether you are an Altmer from the Summerset Isles or a Nord from Skyrim, every race knows their own creation story, but they are all wrong, well they are according to Uncle they are. He told me his version of the story and it is the true story and now I will tell you the tale Uncle told me.

    Who was Lorkhan?

If you are an Altmer, like myself, or a Bosmer than you are familiar with the story of Lorkhan tricking the Aedra into giving up their divinity and if you are a Nord or Imperial Lorkhan was the King of Man, who was defeated by the evil Elven King is known as Auri-El. Well, they are all wrong, for Uncle told me the truth. He told me that Lorkhan was his own God and wasn't the evil twin of Auri-El, but instead he was his own God and wasn't Good nor Evil, but instead Neutral.

Uncle's story begins with two forces named Anu and Padomay both of whom were made of completely different forces. Anu was the force, or everlasting state, of order and Padomay was the force of Chaos. Uncle then said that they wanted to see themselves so the created physical embodiments of themselves. So from them wanting to see themselves Anui-El and Seth were created, and as we know they must collide with it is the law of nature that Chaos and Order must fight.

I began to question Uncle were does Lorkhan come in, and he hit me with his cane and told me to listen. He told me that when Anui-El and Seth collide a huge bang happen and three things happen Mundus was formed, the concept of time was made, and Auri-El, Sithis, and Lorkhan were created. Uncle said all three represented two things, Auri-El was Order and the Begining of time, Sithis was Chaos and the Ending of time, and Lorkhan was Chaos and Order and the Now of time.

    What was Lorkhan's plan?

Uncle told me Mundus was in a constant state of Choas then Order and this continued until Lorkhan thought of a brilliant idea to help balance the two out so no one side had all the power. The only fault in it is that it can only be done in three parts.

First, Lorkhan purposed his plan to both Auri-El and Sithis, at separate times for they would have fought, to create physical embodiments of their concepts. Both agreed to do so. Auri-El and Lorkhan created what we would later call the Aedra and Sithis and Lorkhan created what we would later call the Daedra. Lorkhan did do something, that made Uncle smile, he added Anuic and Padomaic traits in both the Aedra and Daedra.

Now, I thought this made no sense, but hear me out like I did when Uncle told me this tell. Uncle said all Aedra by creation are Good in nature and all Daedra by creation are Evil, but Lorkhan wanted both of them to be balanced by having Padomaic traits in the Aedra and Anuic traits in the Daedra. Uncle gladly provided two examples of this using Mara and Bothiah.

He said Mara is a loving mother, that she loves all her children and wants them all to succeed in what they do, while that sounds good by nature it can be dangerous. How are you asking yourself? Well, it is quite easy to understand if your mother is too loving she becomes over-bearing, starts to control your thoughts, what you can and can't do, and even choosing who you should marry.

He then said Boethiah is a rebellious child for like a child Boethiah hates authority and being told what to do, while that sounds evil by nature it can be a good thing. How may you ask? Well like before it is easy, let's say you and a group of others lived in Skyrim and that idiot known as Ulfric is the High King of Skyrim. Now let's say you and this group started to riot and kill those who support Ulfric and his group, and eventually leading to Ulfric's and his Jarls, Thanes, and such deaths. New and better people can come into power and make Skyrim a better.

That was Lorkhan's first plan to create Good and Evil in all things, because one has to exist for the other to exist, and there has to be a balance.

Second, Lorkhan began to talk to both the Aedra and Daedra about making a physical plane, at first neither side wanted any part of it, but after some further convincing, the Aedra decided to help. Soon Magnus and Lorkhan began to talk about the details of creating this plan that would later become known as Nirn. The plans called for Lorkhan to use his own flesh and blood to create this place, which he agreed to do so, but there was one thing he hide from the Aedra they would have to use their powers to remove his flesh, bones, blood, etc. This is why the Deadra wanted no part of it. As they continued forward with Lorkhan's plan, Magnus realized what was happening and he tried to leave, but Lorkhan's skin was used to form a hard shell around Mundus. So Magnus cast what would become known as the first ever flesh spell to protect his power from Lorkhan, but in doing so he would still release his energy in a burst that still continues to this day. When the other Aedra found out the were furious at Lorkhan, but they knew that they would have to finish in doing so Lorkhan's bones became Nirn and the land masses, his blood the water that flows, and such forth.

The final days of creation were where everything changed and where most stories begin, or so according to Uncle. The Aedra were almost done with Lorkhan's plan when they knew they would have to populate Nirn, and from that, the first Ehlnofeys were born. The Ehlnofey continued the Aedra work, but half decided to take on forms of lovely songbirds, beautiful butterflies, and the first ever race known as Elves. The other half just wandered throughout, until Lorkhan with his last bit of breath convinced them to take forms and in doing so they became known as Man.

Now, I wanted to know what Lorkhan's third and final part of the plan and Uncle told me, though he did after he threw a cheese wheel at me. According to Uncle, Lorkhan wanted his world to have free will, free thought, like Uncle, to prove oneself they are worthy of achieving eternal peace or even becoming a saint, a God, or a Devil. Lorkhan's Heart was the final piece needed to achieve this for when it was opened or shattered an elf, man, or beast could become a God or Devil of his own race, think of it like how those Three over in Morrowind did it. Before, it could be opened his heart was tied to an arrow and shot across Tamriel landing where Red Moutain would be formed.

    Conclusion

That was Uncle's version of the Creation Story and one I and others believe in and have preached about on Tamriel and Uncle's beautiful island. So see Lorkhan wasn't Evil nor Good, but the balance of both Auri-El and Sithis. I shall now go and chase the wonderfully colored butterfly and sing with the lovely songbirds.

Good old Uncle Sheo and his mad ramblings.

However, like any madman's, his ramblings contain a clarity and more interesting; a perspective on events we know so very little about. Isn't that exactly what Lorkhan is in a way?

To the Altmer, he's somewhat of a devil figure and they do everything they can to stop his incarnations from gaining power.

To the Khajit, he is a lost child of Fadomai, corrupted by the ancient darkness, who keeps trying to spread his fate to Azura's chosen.

To the Nords and the Imperials, he is a protective figure, a hero of men.

Who he is, always depends on who you ask. So let me ask you: if you sum up every one of these opinions what conclusion would you reach?

    Zero, neither negative nor positive.

Ahh, so you must be one of Uncle's other children for you discovered something secretly. Lorkhan is the Zero Sum of all things, as you said, two cultures see him as a Devil, and yet the other two see him as a God, therefore canceling each other and making it a Zero. For if you look Zero is in between Negative One and Postive One, which represents Evil and Good.

Also, did you know it takes Two Princes or Princess to make One King or Queen? There are Sixteen Princes/s and Eight Kings and Queens, kind of cool, isn't it? I asked Uncle shouldn't it be Seventeen, but he hit me in the head with his cane. But I would like to think there are Two missing Princes, and one missing Aedra.

Woohoo I loved this! I've always been a fan of the in depth creatin stories in TES, somewhat reminds me of Lord of the Rings. I actually really understood the story and enjoyed how you weaved it all together. Awesome job :)

Thank you and if you liked this one, I have another one in the works, also.

The Monomyth, Anuad, Words of the Clan Ma... TES creation myths are some of the most interesting and fun books in the games. They tell us a lot about a culture, they contradict each other, and remind us that the word myth in TES really does mean myth. What you've done here is cool, by adding one more myth that tells the same tale in a new way is exactly what TES writers have been doing since The Light and the Dark, one of my favourite books in the setting:

"Yes, children, it is no accident that this land of Tamriel has been called 'The Arena'." The old man altered his position on the large rock that bore his weight, and straightened his long gray robe. Rheumy eyes lost their focus as they gazed out over the sun-warmed valley in the mountains of High Rock. For a moment he saw a vision of ancient horrors instead of the fresh greenery of spring. A chill washed over his aged bones.

If this appeared in-game I would be on it like fluff on a Khajiit. As it is, I'm all over it like a tramp on fries ;)

    Thanks. :)

Yeah, I read a lot of the Creation stories in TES and I began to realize that it just like the real world, where different religions have different creation myths. So I figured why not give it a shot using my real life knowledge and my recently acquired TES knowledge into one. I will give that link a read sometime, because I am pretty busy, and don't have a lot of time to read stuff anymore XD.

Also, you will enjoy my next one, since you liked this.
