Upcoming Games

  • September 26, 2012 12:39 PM EDT

So right now we got some pretty promising/big games coming up.

The new XCOM, Hitman: Absolution, Dishonoured, Resident Evil 6, Worms: Revolution, yet another COD game, Natural Selection 2, Assassins Creed 3, War of The Roses (Lets not talk about that one actually...), and more.

What upcoming or recently announced etc. games are you excited about?

And if you know any good indie games mention them too, maybe we can show each other some cool games that are out or coming out. Alot of my favorite games are indie.

So yeah, just thought I'd bring up a discussion about new or upcoming games that are coming out and we can discuss them.

Terraria!!! The only one mentioned I might be slightly interested in is AC3, but I'm going to wait for the customer reviews first before getting it. Worms is a nice casual game that can be played with friends and it's always fun. So I might get that eventually as well.

Hasn't Terraria been out for awhile? Or at least the alpha/beta?

Of the list you got here, I'm pretty stoked on Dishonored. There is a slew of games coming out this fall that I have interest; AC3 (never played an AC game. This one may push me over), Halo4 (not a priority, but all around a good game) I'll pass on COD.

I did get Borderlands2 on release day (pre-paid a couple months ago) and have only played maybe half hour of it. I'm really, really deep into Dark Souls right now and Bld2 just felt sooooo fake and immature. lol I loved the first one and thought it was hilarious, but just not in the mindset for it right now. Been in a bit of a "serious" game mode as of late. DS will do that to you. Dishonored will probably be the only game that will pull me away at the moment.

Oh yeah, Far Cry 3. Another series I haven't played, but this looks pretty good!

Terraria's been out for more than a year :|

  • September 26, 2012 7:08 PM EDT

Yeah, I'll probably get Dishonored at some point, as well as at least 1 of the AC games.

I probably won't get Borderlands 2, I played the first and had fun playing co-op with my brother on the Xbox but Idk, I'd rather get a different game. And well... I think Borderlands 2 is always going to be absurd and immature I'm afraid : P

Yeah I was excited for Far Cry 3 as well, don't know when it's coming out though.

Even though it is already out, I intend to get Borderlands 2. Was a big fan of the first. Others are Hitman: Absolution and Halo 4, with priority on the latter game. BO2 is a maybe, but by no means a must.

Dishonored, Halo 4, and Tomb Raider are games to consider on my end. Definitely Dishonored and Tomb Raider, not totally sure about Halo 4 yet :\ Also considering Borderlands 2, though it's obviously out and not upcoming, I really don't know if I want to get this game or not :\

Lol, don't worry too much about if the game is already out, if it's been out for even like a month you can talk about it. What got me to post this thread was me wondering about games people wanted but if you want to talk about much less well known (Indie basically) games that have been out for a bit and such feel free, you don't have to abide by the rules too much.

McPixel is a silly fun indie game. Black Mesa got greenlighted on Steam so I'm waiting for that to come out as well on Steam.

I watched some gameplay from McPixel and it looks really funny, it's basically a braindead game.

Dishonored, Hitman and War of the Roses are the only games I'm interested in. I couldn't care less about the other games.

Ugh, War of The Roses. The showing of whats to come for M&B Combat...

I haven't played the beta but the gameplay looks okay, it's not a finished game yet so it'll probarly get better. They also say that they'll include mounted combat when they're finished tweaking it. I want that game, unless it changes drastically in a negative way.

  • September 27, 2012 11:06 AM EDT

    I have the Beta.

The only good thing really I can say about it is that the Archery and Crossbows are very nice, they feel weighty and powerful and require skill to use.

But melee combat has been dumbed down from what it should be. You can't block fast at all, and once you block one way it takes a bit before you can switch to the other. You have to 'charge up' a strikes power for a couple seconds before you can swing. They've slowed it down by a ton. Blocking is nearly impossible and you just sort of strafe back and forth in a circle at the enemy trying to 'dodge' while spamming, though you can't even spam correctly because of the slowness and charge up. And this is all using the fastest smaller 1 handed sword. The longsword and 2 handed swords and such are even slower. And shields are for noobs, so fuck them.

You may at some point be able to find a way to somehow 'master' the combat enough to block somewhat but otherwise the skillful and amazing combat of Mount and Blade is sort of gone. Luckily Mount and Blade: Warband, the original, and Fire and Sword are intact but they also dumbed down Napoleonic Wars expansion.

The gameplay that makes Mount and Blade so great, what War of The Roses is based on - is being dumbed down because of idiotic people who can't learn how to play the game because it is hard.

War of the Roses is like if the creators of Dark Souls made the next game really, really easy. And there is no hard mode for the real fans.

Yeah, I did see a lot of strafing in the gameplay video, which disappointed me, but there was a lot of blocking as well, so it's probarly not that impossible.

  • September 27, 2012 11:16 AM EDT

Yeah, but they weren't really successfully blocking in most videos.

Depends on whose playing. If it's the devs they're going to be better at it. Same with some other gamers. But the general players are going to be fully plated 2 handed weapon wielding guys who just charge in and 'spam' at you.

Like I said, if you played enough and practiced you could get a little good at the blocking but the slow clunkiness of it is so bad that even if you 'mastered' the game you would have many attacks you could not block. And just don't say anything about realism, it's about the gameplay.

I really only used my shield for protecting myself against missile weapons, it reduces your reach and I feel fine using a Longsword without a shield, it's fast enough for me, and has a tad more reach, which is what really matters IMO

  • September 27, 2012 6:04 PM EDT

    Dayum, nice list.

It's only triple A/mainstream titles though  FTL should be in September.

But the blocking without a shield...

Nearly everyone uses claymores and poleaxes so timing isn't much of an issue... from what I gather the melee combat is alot more about movement than elaborate minute-long duels and pros that just wreck you as soon as you get into range - as a told my brother 'the naked man with the greatsword always wins'. I was one of those tards that rode around with a lance and shut-down all the pro duelists. Either that or I'd use 2 crossbows/pretend I'm using a melee axe and then switch it to throwing, basically cheap tactics since I could never really get the intricacies of parrying and feinting and all that, in melee I went for a fast weapon and a big shield.

  • September 27, 2012 6:41 PM EDT

Yes, but you see I was the novice playing with those pros (In NW mostly instead of Vanilla but still), and I loved it even though I got destroyed alot. It was really fun and they got rid of most of it :\
