Zakary the Unknown: The (No Longer) Quiet Life

  • Several weeks had passed since the incident in Helgen. I had decided to stay in Riverwood to heal my wounds. Once they had healed however I realized I had absolutely no idea where I should begin my search for my past so I stayed for longer. I spent most of my day at the mill chopping wood for money. One night I was sitting near the river, my feet dangling in, almost everyone was asleep or listening to Sven's sad songs. Faendal came up to me and sat himself down, a huge grin plastered on his face. "I tell you, not a day goes by I'm not glad you came here," he said to me. "without you I would never had managed to get Camilla to like me." "It was nothing." "Either way, I owe you." "HELP ME!!!" Faendal shot up and grabbed his bow. "What was that?!?" "A woman screaming," I replied looking up lazily, my feet still in the river. "Apparently she needs help." Faendal started to run to the bridge, but stopped about ten feet away. "Aren't you coming?" "I'll catch up with you." I slowly got to my feet and put my leather boots on. I grabbed my woodcutters axe and ran after Faendal. We ran up into the mountains. The cool night air blew in our faces as we ran. We stopped and hid behind some rocks when we saw a breton woman sword in hand with her back against the mountain, cornered by several bandits. "SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!" she screamed. "I think it's time to shut that mouth of hers." one of the bandits snarled. He raised his sword, but before he had the chance to bring it down I threw my axe with all my might and watched as it stuck itself into his back. The bandits turned as their companion fell. "You?" one of them yelled. "Me?" I cried. "What do you want we gave you the amu..." He didn't have time to finish because Faendal shot an arrow into his face. Three bandits charged towards us. I grabbed my bow and shot an arrow into the leg of one of the bandits. He fell to the floor and screamed in pain. I raised my bow to defend myself from the blow of one of the bandits and kicked him in the stomach. He dropped his sword and fell to the ground. I picked up his sword and drove it through the bandit attacking Faendal. We turned to attack the remaining bandits to see them running away. We looked at the breton's lifeless body. "If only we had been quicker." Faendal mumbled. I crouched down and searched the body. She had a note on her: "If you are reading this them I am probably dead. These bandits broke into my house, stole my amulet and kidnapped my children. I don't know where they are or if they are still alive but I swear I will avenge them." I folded the note and put it in my pocket. "Why did you shoot that guy?" "What?" "I said, why did you shoot that guy?" "Oh, I'm sorry. Would you have preferred if I had invited him back to Riverwood after he had killed her so he could kill us all in our sleep? Or perhaps I should have just shot myself to save him the trouble?" I picked up my axe and shoved past him. I couldn't be bothered to argue with him. Now I had more questions that needed answering. I had a feeling I wasn't going to stay in Riverwood much longer. At least now I had some sort of a lead that would help me in finding my past. I would start the following morning and find the bandits' lair and that didn't work I would track down the breton's house and family. I would find my answers no matter how long it took.
