Well a few of you may know that I'm planning on doing a massive journal for my main role-play character in skyrim. Now I won’t be starting the actual thing until skyrim is out and I'm actually able to pay it but I thought I would make this post to see who is interested and just give the community a little bit of back story to what will be going on and who Musashi is.
The journal will be comprised of entries after each 2.5-3 hours of game play and will reflect what Musashi has encountered and seen in his perspective (more on his perspective will come later). I will collect multiple entries up and post them in these "The journal of 'Musashi Yojimbo' " blog posts. I may do this weekly, or bi-weekly, maybe even monthly it all depends on how much I write down and how interesting I believe the content is. The journal is actually going to exist in physical form so I'll actually be writing the entries down in this massive tome I’ve bought just for this occasion. I plan on sticking this through to the end of Musashi's journey through skyrim but if I find that people aren’t that interested I won't waste the blogs precious space with my uninteresting posts.
Now I pose a question. How would you guys out there in the community like me to deliver the journal? I'm open to suggestions and remember I have plenty of time till skyrim actually comes out to make up my mind. I can split them up by the real date and time, or by the date and time in the game, I can collect them up into massive paragraphs or I can leave them as small paragraphs for each entry. I'm really interested in how you want me to present the content so any suggestion is valid.
Okay so I should probably say a little bit about the character himself now and how I plan on writing the journal in his perspective again I’m open to suggestions or help in this matter so don’t be afraid to leave a comment.
So to start off any martial artist or swordsman out there should recognize the name Musashi. 'Miyamoto Musashi' was perhaps the greatest samurai in history, winning one on one duel's with just wooden swords. He was a master of using both the katana and the wakizashi at the same time and will be the primary influence on my characters play style. 'Yojimbo' is simply the Japanese word for 'sword for hire'. Basically 'Musashi Yojimbo' will be an elder scrolls version of the real life Musashi and will primarily be a great swordsman using duel wield katanas and/or a dai-katana. Magic and stealth will be used but not to much and only in the case where it seems necessary. Also he won't be wearing armor most of the time unless he knows a battle is about to occur in which case it'll be time to suit up.
I won't go into to much detail about where Musashi will come from or what he is doing in skyrim as ill try to incorporate that into the journal entries but here is the idea that is in my head. Musashi is a foreigner coming from a very distant culture where swordsmanship and honor is praised. Due to certain circumstances he will be forced to travel to skyrim in search of a legendary item. As a foreigner his views will be judgmental and confusion will be seen a lot of the time. As his journey progresses Musashi will begin to understand skyrim's culture and maybe even learn to like it. He will ultimately be sentenced to execution do to his misunderstanding of skyrim’s culture but the physical reason I'm still yet to decide on.
If the in my 2.5-3 hour session nothing grand happens then the entry will be very blunt and pretty much useless, these will either be edited out or incorporated into other entries instead. The plan is to have something happening all the time; I really don't want these entries to become "I saw a plant. It was big and green. Interesting..." this will not be interesting for you guys and I really want this to be something you look forward to reading each week even if it will take 15-30 mins to read the whole lot.
I think ill cut it there for now and see what people think about the plan so far. I'll probably make another one of these introduction posts before the journal actually gets up and running to set in stone the plan of action and to see if there are enough people interested. Also if you notice any spelling or grammar errors please let me know. I'm studying engineering and I'm known for my numerous "There They're and Their" mistakes and appreciate supportive criticism. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think hopefully I can deliver what you want and keep you from yawning while you’re reading.
