Birth of the Dark Assassin; Part 3

  • I was about to speak, I even had the whole story worked out in my mind when suddenly and without any warning I collapsed to the ground unconscious. I do not know for exactly how long I slumbered but I do remember that I dreamt the most unusual and most vivid dream I have ever had.

I was walking alone in a field of roses in some strange land the likes of which I had never before. The scents in the air that filled my nose where truly unlike anything I had ever smelt and if only they could have been bottled, you would have no choice but to call such a fragrance “heaven” for that is the only word that comes close to describing these scents. As I walked further along in the field losing myself in its splendour and wishing to never wake from this dream I realised I was not alone in the field any longer.

Up ahead of me were two other figures standing in the field, they both were wearing robes but they were in complete contrast to one another. The one the left was dressed completely in black from head to toe and the robe of his hood was up and covered his face from view. Just looking on this stranger in black made me feel cold and afraid. The stranger on the right was a different story altogether, they had on them a long flowing femine type of light blue, their hood was also up but because of the colour of the robe, the hood was nearly see through and I could just barely make out the face underneath it.

I walked closer to them, not really wanting to but unable to stop myself from it. It seems like I was not in control of my own actions. I shortly arrived beside the two strangers and wanted nothing more than to wake up right then and there, there was just something other worldly and frightening about them that I did not for one second think they were or ever had been mortal.

I was about to speak when suddenly, I heardthe most soothing voice I had ever heard in my life and all at once my fears left me and I was completely and utterly calm. “Peace Vedave we mean you no harm”. Yes,  before you ask, Vedave had been my name back then. “We have brought you here to tell you who you really are and to explain how important you are. You are one who is truly blessed, more so than any mortal in centuries. You have no idea of your true nature or your birthright. Time is short so I must be brief my friend. Do not speak, do not ask questions, only listen and believe, do you understand?”. I looked straight at he and simply nodded that I did.

“Very good then let me begin, I am the one you call Azura and in your veins flows the blood of my favoured champion The Nerevarine Incarnate and so I smile upon you. Yet that is not all, you possess no mere mortal soul but that of a dragon and in the ancient tongue it is known as Dovakiin or dragon-born to you. The Dragons will soon return to Tamriel just as the Elder Scrolls foretold and you will be the only one to stop them wrecking untold destruction on the land and so it is you and you alone who must stand against them. I know this is all a bit much for you to take in but your arrival like that of the dragons has been foretold and a path has been laid out for you to prepare you for what you must do. You have suffered greatly I no but you shall have your vengeance and more I promis.

“Yeess boy you shall have your vengeance I will see to it” said the stranger in black, his every word was like cold water running down my back. “I am the one you no as Sithis and I too have smiled upon you since birth. I knew every were you went death would soon follow and oh what glorious deaths they would be. By my hand I shall guide you, you shall become the greatest assassin this world has ever seen, your hands will be drenched in the blood of mortal and dragon alike, never before has there been one of your equal.”

Azura stepped forward and spoke again “Yes Vedave Sithis has blessed you too, but you are not to become that which you hate. You are too be righteous in your killings not random. When you awake you will be in prison awaiting execution, fear not for we will provide” with that Azura kissed her hand and placed it on my head, I began to feel drowsy and full of light at the same time, it was a most unusual sensation.

Before I became unconscious again Sithis spoke loudly but quickly “You are no longer to go by the name Vedave Rarayn, that man is dead. You are to be re-born my child this very night, your new name from this moment onward is to be Gurtha Sgiathatch, it means Death Dragon in the ancient elvish tongue”.

My eyes opened suddenly and it was day time, I was lying on my back on the floor of a damp dirty cell inside the guard house. I sat up and rubbed my trying to make sense of what had just happened. Could that dream have been real or was it a bi-product of all the mixture of emotions I had felt the night before causing me to enter some hallucinogenic coma? I didn’t have time to answer my own question as just then the guard Igor came in and roared “ah your awake are ye? Ya filthy murderous dog! Well you best get up and make the most of it, cause you’ve a date with the executioner today and I don’t intend on seen you miss it. Now get up you bastard”.

I decided to throw caution to the wind and put my life in the hands of fate, “Azura protect me, Sithis guide me”, I muttered this simple prayer and then got to my feet and walked slowly over to the cell bars. I stood there holding the bars and staring directly into Igor’s ugly face. I coughed up the vilest amount of phlegm I could hold in my mouth and spit it with all my strength straight into Igor’s face. Oh yes I will have my vengeance……….
