We had a discussion on the old blog about which region the next elder scroll was to take place. But the big question is what will be the main plot device – how do you top dragons? Well I’ve been thinking on this for some time, and I think I thought of a way. This is for fun, although I think it would work. I’m just playing around and speculating some.
Elder Scroll 6:
Invasion of Black Marsh.
Plot Device/Main Quest:
Black Marsh is invaded by the vampiric snake-people of Tsaesci. This invansion can begin with masses of goblins (a common creature of ES series) and other ‘slave-armies' arriving on the eastern coast of Black Marsh. As the plot unfolds, more difficult foes can be encountered (new enemies arriving by sea, for example).
Basis in Lore:
These snake-people are from Akavir, a landmass east (4000+ miles) of Tamriel. These snake-people ate all the humans of Akavir, and then they tried to eat the dragons – eventually leading to the demise of the dragons. How do you top dragons? Well, with something that eats people and destroys dragons. (I think some of the dragons and people were enslaved). Nearly all dealings with Akavir involve conflict and war. They have invaded Tamriel in the past. Goblins have been enslaved (food / labor) by the Tsaesci.
(The term ‘eat’ may have been figurative, and may actually mean conquered.)
Location Rationale:
Black Marsh is a good locale (east coast of Tamriel, south of Morrowind) and seemingly a suitable habitat for vampiric snake-people (some of whom are nearly all snake-like). It has not been the major feature site in earlier ES games.
Edit (6/29/2014):
As mentioned in the comments the invasion location was the weakest point of this scenario. I actually prefer Topal Bay now, instead of Black Marsh proper; you get parts of Cyrodiil, Elsweyr, and Black Marsh. And if we extend that area west, we can get a portion of Valenwood. Please read the comments, the input of others have really polished this idea. Also keep in mind that this was written prior to Skyrim's release.
What do you think?
