I see you are using the mage armor, but if you end up adding smithing you could trade that for any combination of armors you want, while creating unique looks. Chitin helmets for example fits the concept of an artificer, because of the glasses and mouth cover.
Avoiding combat skills won't underpower you, since you are able to double the equipments stats with smithing. It will end up having the same stats of a no craft build. You won't be a skilled fighter because of the other perks, but you'll have pretty good armor and weapons to make up for it (and I'm not even considering the alchemy-smithing loops for power players...)
