Survival Mode is definately a tough sell I agree, I feel the save system is what the cause. There are a few ways around it I guess, mods which allow saving and they did update adding exit saves a while ago. You can also save at beds without sleeping if you press the back button to prevent the sleep, this is helpful for preventing catching diseases.
I believe SM has some great benefits, it can really lengthen a playthrough and adds so much more meaning to the systems in place like crafting and settlement building. I personally find it the best way to experience the world (though I have yet to complete a playthrough). I originally blasted through the game very quickly which I regret now, looking back at my trophies on PSN it's horrendous. The game came out 10/11/2015 and I completed my first playthrough on 15/11/2015 (though at 0.42am so it was practically the 14th). Taking your time with games can be so much better...
Regardless what the next event is, I'm looking forward to it.
