I just looked up how to best equip mage followers:
First they need to eqeup it so light armor is a good choice. (I love vamp armor+circlet/hood as it stil looks magical.) Alternantly, look on he internet how to get m to use clothes/robes.
Enchants:
Head: Fort magica+waterbreating (incase u go swimming as fortify regen does not work)
Body: Forth health and magica
Gauntlets: Fort magica+carry weight (needs to be ferified, but some report it works)
Boots: Resist Schock and Fire(nord)/ Frost(dunmer)
Jewelry: Fort magica+health/resist magic (I'd go magic but not playtested wat's best)
(low lvl's give azhidals ring as it's very mana eficient)
That wil result in the folowing while done with grand souls, while wearing azhidals gear, having secret of sorcery and drank a store bought poison of fortify enchanting (25%):
The armor rating any armor might import (afcourse, but lets not forget )
Waterbreathing,
75 Extra health (or 225 if u don't go magic resist),
50% or higher resist to all elementals,
48/50 Magic resist, (could not test)
and,
375!!! extra magica
You can even boost this furter with a falmer helmet. (75 More magica, but... Ugly!)
Now, lets talk about the back up weopons.
To keep it mage like, a dagger and Staves (1 each element+1 or 2 summon staves. Maybe even a paralyze staff, dident test that). For powerplay, Sword and bow.
Matirial and enchantment on the dagger/sword/bow:
Stahlrim cause it enhances frost/chaos damage.
And then chaos+absorb health (or magica for the bow)
This gear should make your follower a worthy apprentise
