2 builds you might consider checking out: The Nightingale Swordsman and The Shadowdancer. They both have a sort of rogue/illusionist vibe IIRC, and seeing how they're put together might give you ideas on how to take things in a new direction.
I'm not sure how useful runes would be, but ... hmm. Now that I think of it, Frenzy Rune would have some applicability. I don't think I've seen anyone use that as an "in-the-middle-of-battle" thing, but it could work. Frost Runes (and frost magic in general) could potentially be helpful as slower-downers and Stamina-drainers.
I've had trouble with Shadow Warrior myself, though, so I'm not sure about how easy it is to do the crouch/roll/drop maneuver you're describing.
As for apparel, the thief/linwe stuff is probably the way to go if you're looking for light armor. I do like the look of some kind of mage robes and leather armor pieces everywhere else (gloves, boots, TG hood).
