Same. Snow's not good in March, no matter where you are.

  • March 20, 2018

Things aren't going well for me, DB. My country's woeful ability to deal with ice and snow has left the logistics and transport industries in a right mess. I'm pulling a 60 hour week this week, another next week. So that leaves me three days from Thursday to get anything done. If my last three days off are anything to go by, I will be feeling the exact opposite of creative. I can easily finish the build because when last I played I hit some major milestones, but the result will likely not as intended at the start. So that sort of defeats the entire point. Apart from rallying standard and rise kinsmen perks to help that General Talos concept along, there is nothing unique enough in my mind to make it worth the effort. We'll see. Unless I get a sudden infusion of inspiration and magicka, I'll be a grumpy prick for several weeks to come.

How often does it snow up there? I mean, if it started snowing down here I can totally understand everybody flipping out and having no idea how to deal with it, would essentially be the final sign of the Apocalypse (note...I've seen snow twice and it was so pathetic that it melted before hitting the ground so :P). Sucks Phil, absolutely sounds like it sucks.

So you're going with General Talos, working in Block, Heavy Armour, One-Handed, Speech with a bit of Smithing and Resto right? Well, I can think of a few pretty good combinations there. Rise Kinsmen can be triggered pretty frequently when you consider the fact that you can restore Stamina by Shouting and Restoration Spells (with Respite) but that'd require taking Edgewalker as well...eh only two additional perks there might not be that big a deal and it'd allow you for some very consistent healing...Actually, now that I think about it you might even be able to boost the healing rate of And the Universe Listens because it specifically says 'Restore Health' which means it's feasible that you could boost it with Restoration Perks...not sure, something to try out perhaps?

Other then that, I think the general idea of the build is pretty damn solid. I mean if you combined Battle Fury, Rallying Standard and Rise Kinsmen that gives you a fair bit of ally support, especially if you focus on melee followers and have two Rallying Standards set up. Plus since your grabbing Gods and Mortals, your going to be getting some really interesting Shout-Related boosts (assuming your worshipping at Talos' Shrine of course :P), I mean your possibly gaining resets for killing enemies, just the normal 3 second cooldown effect of...one of the Speech Perks and you could end up playing a character that can get some insane combos off with Shouts.

I'd definitely go that angle myself because you can do things like the Throw Voice trick I worked out with my...Wood Carver build who's name is too long for me to remember :P And I really only scratched the surface. If you want Phil, I can keep thinking of some stuff, I can't play anyway but putting my brain to work on tips is always fun :D

Course...that doesn't help with the timing and the business. Would manipulate the weather but sadly by powers have boundaries :P Hope it clears up for ya Phil, both work and the weather :)

It's so rare where I am. Last time I remember the south west getting such a disruptive snowy weather front was 2010, I think. Everything grinds to a halt like Atmora, frozen in time. It's not as if we couldn't be prepared for it if it were regular - like switch to winter tyres every autumn - but it isn't at all regular, especially not this late in the year. It really did feel like the end times were upon us. It's actually quite funny, in a way, almost military. Like, I phoned Transport on Sunday after a few hours of heavy snow in Bristol... You need to picture guys looking at maps with pins in them to represent depots and lorries... "The South-West is lost to us. Devon, Cornwall... Gone." That's what I was told. Because logistics is largely about cause and effect, once anything disturbs that chain of supply and delivery, the whole lot can just break. And indeed it did, there are still stores with notices apologising for the limited availibility of stock lines. Crazy. Absolutely crazy.

Anyway! You have some good thoughts and have put my mind at ease. I was worried about my Gameplay section, but I don't think I have any choice but to present that normally. Like, you mention Gods and Mortals. As of now, my Resto skill is at 83, and that's without hardly ever using a spell. Because the Pilgrim perk increases Shrine Blessings by 1% for each Resto skill point, making bucket loads of money is easy if we just get a Zenithar blessing prior to trading. If we factor in Speech Matery's 20%, also wear an Amulet of Zenithar, and give gold to a begger; a tidy sum can be made each time we visit a town. No wonder Tiber died the richest man in history!. Because he is a pilgrim, he just gives that all to Danica (after doing the Blessings of Nature quest, of course) and is rewarded for that charity with Resto training just to get Gods and Mortals. It works beautifully, both as a mechanic and as an RP reason to give to the temple. But explaining that in a poem is just beyond me, so will have to be summarised in a more regular style.

I don't know if I'll be able to get Battle Fury because I hadn't planned on visiting Solstheim as part of this story. But this:

Rise Kinsmen can be triggered pretty frequently when you consider the fact that you can restore Stamina by Shouting and Restoration Spells (with Respite) but that'd require taking Edgewalker as well...eh only two additional perks there might not be that big a deal and it'd allow you for some very consistent healing...Actually, now that I think about it you might even be able to boost the healing rate of And the Universe Listens because it specifically says 'Restore Health' which means it's feasible that you could boost it with Restoration Perks...not sure, something to try out perhaps?

Now that is interesting! Am I reading this right? You're saying that the perk And the Universe Listens effectively now treats shouts as Resto spells? If so, just damn! He is a constant shouter and cooldown is very short without glitching or anything. Just an Amulet, a Blessing, and a cloak. But there is still a cooldown, and a noticeable increase to health and stamina with each yell. If Edgewalker and Respite increase Universe Listens... hell yes!

Thank for the chat Deebs :) I feel more optimistic. March has 31 days, so I should still have 30th and 31st bringing me up to five whole days to get this out. And considering I'm 85% of the way there, I think I can do it. I really, really want that badge.

So...sort of but not really. My theory is that AtUL works as a...sort of additional but still (technically) separately power that calculates the cooldown, and then heals you by a certain amount. It'd be a lot easier (I think) then set it up as an additional effect of each Shout. And I can explain that all in more depth if you'd like (I wouldn't, it's pretty boring stuff :P) but basically, it's sort of like your using a Healing Power after Shouting every single time. If it were treating them like Resto Spells, or even Effects it'd be a very differnet situation. That way if Fire Breath (1 Word) did 30 damage with a cooldown of 40 seconds (as a random example) and you had an effect that boosted Resto Spells by 50%, then it'd change to be 45 damage with the Restoration being 60 points of S/H/M.

But what I think, is that because it works as a separate power...it's possible that AtUL could be boosted by any number of perks. It's hard to say, I'd be dead wrong if it's considered a Restoration Effect, or if Enai thought it through (very possible, dude thinks about a lot of this sort of thing) and just has it set as 'no-school'. So it's definitely something that would have to be tested, and the more I think it through the more surer sure I am that it's probably counted as a Restoration Effect, but I could be wrong...possibly, depends. Some of Enai's stuff ends up working as Spells, others as Effects and it really changes how everything works depending on which one it falls under

Now I've gotta figure out what I was smoking to make me think about combining Respite and AtUL...I mean the latter already restores stamina so unless it is a spell, it's sorta pointless (if it is a spell, it's theoretically possible that Respite would trigger with the Restore Health giving you a double restore stamina boost). Just ignore that part, but consider the idea of Resto Boosting it...just got no idea how to test it. Or if it matters in the long run :P

I follow. I think Edgewalker is definitely worth a test. All I really need to do is get my HA to 80 for the Rallying Standard lines, get the Block perks finalised (just the basic deflect arrows and apocalypse proof, really) and just continue on until Gods and Mortals is done. So I'm aiming for a level 40-sih build. Getting Edgwalker should be no issue at all, indeed can probably do it upon next level-up! Thanks Deebs :)

Should have my next build up soon.

My build is finally out! It didn't come out as expected, but I'm satisfied with it nonetheless.

I had two ideas for this event. The first one was based off of a movie soundtrack from the Godfather, but the build was more inspired by a character in that movie than the piece itself, so I abandoned it. The second one was also inspired by a track in a movie (though the track wasn't composed specifically for the movie), but the more I fleshed the build out, the less I felt it had to do with the piece itself, and now the build doesn't really fit it. I might get around to playing them sometime, but I really wanted to make a build for this event. Once I saw Phil pick a pice of baroque music, I didn't want to choose an easy song like I originally planned; I wanted to do something a little more abstract. I was initially going to make a build based on Prince of the Land of Stench by Nekrogoblikon, and Mason basically already made it with his Revenant build, anyways, so I had no reason to go for it. I still have time, though. Hopefully I think of something.

So while it won't be for March, could you change The Devil Went Down to Georgia to TBA

My last build in terms of March is up. https://tamrielvault.com/groups/topic/view/group_id/3/topic_id/9783/post_id/122175 so will we have more Events to come soon? Even if they're flash Events
