Ok so that Nord/Nede thing reminded me why I asked the question to begin with.

These stones were made way back when the cultural beliefs of the day weren't around yet. I don't think it is a coincidence that once the three  Guardians and the Serpent are removed from the list that we are left with nine constellations.

What with Mankar's assertions that Tamriel is Lorkhan's plane of Oblivion and a few other references scattered about in the texts, along with the topical discussions about the unconscious Aedra, is it feasible to propose that the Constellations are the true gods of Nirn?

That would make the Redguards right, no?

Those are literally nothing more than stories.

It's a bit perplexing if you remove the Serpent, who's supposed to represent Lorkhan. We've got an extra divine floating round.

I have no idea what sort of concrete evidence you're expecting from a video game. I can't give you DNA analysis of the different races to confirm their common ancestry. There are these stories and confirmations from Bethesda.

Even in a meta-analysis, this setting is literally nothing but stories. Existence is a figment of the godhead's imagination while he sleeps.

Yeah, there is something missing still to make this theory work, maybe trying to link the Aedra to the Constellations is being too simple, too direct. What if it the Eight are more like the evolution of the idea originally thought of by the primitive Nedic people who erected the stones and worshipped the stars?

The concepts might still be there, the emotions and themes carrying over to modern Tamrielic belief, but almost beyond recognition. Maybe we need to start grouping the Nine in threes, as if Magnus is the Mage and his charges are Julianos, Arkay and ???

Sounds good, but lets open that discussion after this one!

Now we have to question the entire theologies of the peoples of Tamriel...

I wanted to clarify that I believe that the Nedes were the common ancestors the races of men, including Nords.
