An Argument for 'Unarmed Combat'

Yeah I could only do H2H with a Khajiit. I love how they use their claws! There is a bit of strategy when it comes to H2H, lame animations aside. You can attack much faster so you can bob and weave around an enemy's slower weapon swings. I also use the power attack like a cancel, throw a light right hook and before it connects start a triple power attack. Nice little four-hit combo there. I think the damage also has a lot to do with the monotony. If you aren't killing things fast enough then yeah, 25 right punches gets pretty boring. With this guide and other techniques unarmed can be pretty fun when you can body slam a guy for a 1-hit KO or three or four punches and a killcam lays an enemy out.

I find melee combat boring in general so I played my unarmed character as an alteration mage type monk, just to give me other things to do!

So I am wondering I understand you need to take necro before fists but do you also need to already be a vampire or will transformation make it work

You also need to be a vampire.

The perk bonus's are calculated when you take them. You wont get the bonus from the necromage perk without being undead, and you wont be marked as undead without being a vampire.

OK thanks that's what I thought but needed clarification.

OK, so I'm testing this in a build I'm working on.  My findings are not following with this so I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong.

For clarification...should the Fortify Marksman potion work even if you are NOT a vampire?  If not, then that's my problem.  (speaking specifically about unarmed damage)

Dragon: 905.00 HealthPunch only (Orc Gauntlets): 38.61 damage (twice in a row)
Berzerker Rage only: 77.22 damage (twice in a row)
Fortify Marksman Potion only: 41.83 and 38.61 damage (base punch damage)
Both Rage + Potion: 77.22 twice in a row (showing only Rage affecting)

They should both work. I've never tried using both at once; it's possible that one effect overwrites the other but that seems unlikely to me. I don't have access to my PC today, so I can't test myself, but I can say that vampirism is definitely irrelevant to the equation. Both the potions and the power should work regardless.

If you have any experience with the Creation Kit, you can look inside to see how both Fortify Archery and Berserker Rage work. I think they both apply a "Mod Physical Damage [multiplicative]" effect -- 2.00-times for Berserker Rage, and (1 + <mag>)-times for the potion (where <mag> is the potion's magnitude).
