    @seriouslyitsmyname--give Alastor's Transient Sorcerer a read. Pure mage that relies mainly on low-level (read this as almost entirely Novice spells except for Adept level Alteration) AND a wanderer. Scroll down to his "Wanderlust" section to get a quick idea as to what the build is all about. Honestly, it sounds like just what the doctor ordered ;D

    @Shinjin - Damn that is a really nice mage/wanderer build I should also try it at some point.

    I had a ton of fun playing it, and I did it without the DLC. Now that I've got the DLC, I might have to play it again xD

    Hey guys! After years of playing, I've grown tired of Skyrim's major questlines, but there are still many areas I have yet to visit. So I would like to play some wanderer-type or similar character that fulfills most of these requirements:

    • -RP motivation for exploring dungeons/landmarks that aren't targets of quests. Exploration for the sake of exploration feels forced to me
    • -Possibly some gameplay benefit from exploration, too. (Maybe alchemy?)
    • -Should be able to get your essential equipment/spells/abilities very early
    • -No permanent residence, you should only need as much stuff as you can carry
    • -Only one crafting skill or none at all
    • -Some degree of variation in combat tactics so I won't get bored by lvl20

    Usually, I prefer mages to thieves and thieves to warriors (mostly because of the last point), but any archetype should be fine. I would appreciate any recs, even if it's a build that only partially fits my description, but you think it may give me some ideas to make my own. Thanks in advance!

    I would recommend ShinJin and Lozhar's The Knights of Iron. While it does use all 3 crafting skills, it flows very naturally and hits all other criterias perfectly. Give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

    @Shinjin @Aysleph - Thanks for the recs

    @Duvain - Thanks and looking forward to your build

    I am looking for a barbarian mage build.  I know about the arcane barbarian and that is not what I want since I want this character to wear armor.

    I'm not sure what kind of mage you are looking for but The Clever Man  by Paul England is a great barbarian/necromancer build.

    I would like the build to have as a mage at least destruction and two-handed as a barbarian though that will make it where I cannot cast spells as easy.

    Paul England also has a build based on the Atmoran Dragon Totem here: https://www.tamrielvault.com/groups/topic/view/group_id/3/topic_id/7498 There is another called The Nord Warmage: http://www.tamrielvault.com/groups/topic/view/group_id/3/topic_id/4305 Personally, I think playing as a barbarian/battlemage blend is a lot of fun, but switching between spell(s) and a two-hander in the middle of battle can leave you vulnerable. It's better to have a flesh spell in one hand, summon in the other at all times. That way you can start off every battle with a flesh spell and a summon of your choice. Then you can draw your two-hander and have some fun. Enchanting your weapons with elemental effects is much better than Destruction, really. Shouts are also great for crowd control and elemental damage too. Of course, you can always train Destruction to a level high enough for the Augmented Fire, Frost, and Shock perks to further augment elemental damage enchantments.

This is just a rough idea of what one can do with this type of character build.
