This build, is what I was talking about In a discussion about Nords using magic.

What discussion, out of curiosity?  Something that was posted in the lore forums?

Great build, I've played through it to about level 34 now and really enjoyed it. two items I picked up in the course of my play through that really helped in certain situations and fit the aesthetic perfectly were the ancient helm of the unburned from labyrinthian and the helm of Yngol. each adds a nice chunk of defence when smithed and a great boost to fire or frost resist respectively. Great for dragons, dragon priests or powerful mage battles.

During my play through based on this build, I was inspired to create a new mod (a library in Windhelm). Thank you for this and all the builds you have shared.

Great build, Paul. I really have enjoyed the RP element here, it flows very well. As a side note, I decided to get the Hjalmarch property, rather than Hijerm. I was thinking that he'd want an out of the way place to conduct 'research' and that the idea of living right next to the High Gate Ruins (where he uncovered his first dragon mask) would be appealing. Plus it's a suitably mysterious area in general that the Clever Man helped clear of yet another vampires influence over the course of the Dawnguard plot. Anyway, yeah the RP flows and the build is fun. My first attempt at necromancy has been a blast. Thanks Paul!

Good point regarding Hjalmarch; the Clever Man does really lend himself to an out-of-the-way home base.  I think I went with Hjerim primarily because none of my other characters had really lived there before.

Glad you're enjoying it!  I'd never done necromancy before, either, despite having played the game pretty much since release.  I just couldn't get into the RP of a dark, brooding necromancer.  It took a link to Nordic myth for me to really explore the fun of those spells!

Library in Windhelm, eh?  Is this associated with Hjerim, or a freestanding building - and have you uploaded it to the Nexus?

I've made a similar character myself. I love how you think man. I went with lycanthropy. Mythology surrounding wizards often incorporates shape shifting. I really only use werewolf form for long distance travel. I went: Primary: Conjuration Enchanting Healing Speech Perking smithing I feel puts too much pressure to wear other armor types and perked enchanting with some basic alchemy will raise smithing high enough to get some good upgrades to armor and weapon damage. This puts the emphasis on magic smithing as opposed to raw skill. I also didn't want to perk more than one crafting skill. Speech also seemed like a no brainier as a nod to the manipulative power of clever men.
