No side! The Ranger cannot be allowed to take sides in a civil war as it disturbs the balance of this war. In the Ranger's philosophy the civil war must conclude on its own, without a Ranger's influence. Thalmor though are sworn enemies to the Rangers and they take no part in the civil war.

As an additional mod recommendation you could use Skyrim Redone. The mod is quite extensive and changes a lot of things but the Ranger really gets its own unique personality in skills. Another mod recommendation is Hunterborn. This is a mod that completely changes the manner how you hunt animals. Combine this with SkyTEST and Hunting in Skyrim (all SkyRe compatible) you will have a heck of a lot of fun playing this build.

    Hunterborn

    Skyrim Redone

    Hunting in Skyrim

    SkyTEST

Any roleplay ideas as a werewolf?

None, although the werewolf will bring a ranger closer to nature, you get bonded with Hiricine, a Daedra. For that reason, the Valenwood Ranger doesn't possess the Beastblood. It could be a nice twist in the RP to get "infected" with the Beastblood, but I have no idea how I could incorporate that into the build.

That was my idea was that of an infection, but somehow realizing its ability to help protect nature
