Don't get me wrong I doubt the Gauldur incident is why the records only go back to the second era, it is however still a possibility.

As to the college, I'm a bit disappointed the place had to be so secretive; there is so much interesting cultural stuff we're missing out on. Not to mention the complete silence on the whole collapse thing...

I doubt it too. Gauldur's family was just one family and it's not like that Gauldur was the last arch-mage of the 1st era. Also, no reason for them to destroy ALL of the College's records, they only had to destroy those related to the incident. And something tells me that there had to be some other, much bigger event later in the 2nd era which is why the other records were destroyed.

And, yes, I wish also there was more data...

The bigger point is that they would've destroyed any sources mentioning the tombs where the sons were buried. Saarthal, Geirmund's Hall, and the third one I can never remember. Any book mentioning Saarthal would've been thoroughly destroyed. Hence why Saarthal's location was unknown prior to the events of Skyrim, as stated by Tolfdir.

Not every book simply mentioning the tombs, but merely those mentioning their location. Otherwise there would be no knowledge even about the existence of Saarthal, which isn't the case as it was mentioned in The Night of Tears, however its location was unknown at the time.

As of ESO: Morrowind I am 100% convinced that the Eye of Magnus is the Clockwork City.

Hmm? I don't know much about ESO: Morrowind or Morrowind in general, so I can't even tell if this is serious or a joke)))) Explain?

Wait, so you guys think this artifact is something like a daedric artifact? That shifts in time and space to be at different places? I was kinda thinking it was more like a unique statue type thing.

According to Kirkbride the thing is actually a time-travelling super AI from the future or something along those lines. With that in mind, I can kinda understand why Veloth would think it's the clockwork city. One could imagine the clockwork city is simply the interior of the Eye; the programming if you want. It does come with a simple problem; I always thought Sotha-Sil made the clockwork city himself which doesn't fit with the Eye of Magnus.

On the other end; Sotha-Sil was a known associate of the Psijics and is thought to have taught classes there, so it wouldn't surprise me if they knew where to find the Eye if it was indeed the city. I wonder what new information ESO Morrowind brought to the table. I'm just going off of Kirkbride and speculation.

Wait...is ESO cannon? Sorry, this isn't the place for this but I need to know. People keep throwing out ESO as a source, but I'm still not sure it's a cannon series.

I think it's canon, I'm having some strange continuity issues with Cyrodiil not being what it was previously described as (pre-Talos) but Bethesda came up with the perfect mechanism to deal with those: Dragon breaks. So I'm just gonna take my new lore on the lesser-known races and roll with it XD

As little as I'm usually inclined to believe Kirkbride's off-games texts, the Eye being an AI from the future seems a more sensible version than it having been made by Sotha Sil. Because we know that it was first encountered by Ysgramor's contemporaries and Sotha Sil, correct me if I'm mistaken, was born quite a few centuries later... And even if we explain it by the Eye's ability to travel through time, why would it end up in Saarthal of all places?..
