RPing racism in Skyrim sucks (as it should do really), but not only that, it limits the game way too much in my opinion. That's why I like to come up with a reason why the protagonist is 'special', I mean most RPG PCs are anyway. Being the Dragonborn is the obvious one, but depending on the roleplay there could be loads. When I try and make an Average Joe character it gets really difficult, and I head in the direction of Speech like you have, or maybe sneaking in and bribery.Of course this should have level limitations like you've rightfully put in place, but while this is realistic is does make for a boring early game :(

In my case, I'm using Hearthfire, so I just have to kill bandits until level 9, when I get a letter from the Jarl of Falkreath saying that he's heard of my exploits (fitting with his "kill the bandit leader" quest as a prereq for buying land).

Would a Khajiit who uses magic, but only to supplement their warrior/thief abilities, use Jo/Ko, or stick with Do/Dar/Daro?

It might be worth asking a larger question in Lore for this, mitch, as I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with Khajiit naming. But I'd say that it depends on how integral magic is to their identity. Supplementing makes me think of a little here and there, in which case the none-magic names would make sense. But if magic is integral to how they operate - ie they use magic for every counter and in every day life, and their use of magic is vital to them as a person, I'd go with the magic names.

My wannabe-mage peasant has known the basic Flames and Healing since before he came to Skyrim. If he wants to be a mage, why wouldn't he use Destruction?

I have a pure Mage who dosent use Destruction Spells over the Apprentice level because he has no talent for it.

Or maybe link it to something bad in his past, like Mages burning down a farm with Fireballs or something so youre peasant dislikes Destruction magic

Some mages may just have an aversion to certain types of magic, like it doesn't feel right for them to use, or maybe it's way more difficult for them to learn. Maybe their goals don't require the use of Destruction - like if they just wanna be a Healer. There are loads of reason for a mage to not want to use a school.

I've been having a fun change of pace with a theif character, living on Whiterun's streets stealing food and breaking into peoples houses for warmth and clothing (I have Frostfall and a needs mod on).

Problem is, I'm not sure what her motivation would be to explore Skyrim. Motivation to get out of Whiterun is appearing in the form of armed thugs getting sent twice so far and a building bounty, but to explore and what city to seek out next idk. I don't want to seek out the Theives guild just yet as in-character she simply doesn't know about it.

At some point I'll need to move past stealing for necessity too, and applying her skills for another purpose.

A theif character is refreshing but unusual for me so I'm struggling with coming up with motivations for this.

There's always more riches, more opportunities elsewhere. Did your character here about a city to the south west which is literally built from the ancient metal of an extinct race? If they did you better believe that a thief would be high-tailing it in that direction to find any trace of lost ancient artefacts in the area. Discovered the value of Soul Gems? Well there's a whole school filled with them just north of Windhelm. I like to try and use the lore of a place to make it a bit more interesting, and using it for motivation to go there and steal it's cool shit sounds like a proper laugh.

Hmm that's a good idea, overhear or read about sites and seek out the most lucrative location and maybe join the C of Winterhold just to smuggle out valuables. I wish the "heard any rumors" prompt gave more varied locations, it would be perfect RP-wise to find targets from tavern chat.

Moving on from robbing townspeople proved easier than I thought - Sven and Hilde became agressive after I stole from them, and the guards defended my character and cut down poor Sven and Hilde in the street. So guilt has become an unexpected driving force to not keep robbing commoners and not to kill when unecessary.

Well that definitely sounds like a sticky situation. What morality is the character? I imagine not all thieves would feel bad about getting two civilians killed, collateral damage as it were. Or are they more chaotic good than purely selfish?
