An Argument for 'Bash Damage'

To my own amusement, the unofficial patch has fixed the marksmanpotion affecting all damage..

Anyway, I've been wondering the pros of using a shield with unarmored types, as you have mentioned before, they can mitigate much damage with a shield only. However it hasn't occurred to me what use does unarmored give instead of, say, light armor?

Manaregen is a given ofc, if one is not an enchanter, but is the movement speed so much faster? Or staminaregen?

    Another great post James :P

I had never considered using MFD in combination with bashing, but Block is the one skill I have to use on every character I play, it makes perfect sense. I was actually planning on making a no-crafting, Master difficulty character using MFD as a substitute for crafting, and I'll certainly use power bashes a lot now I've seen this.

I tried to use as little crafting as possible to make it more streamlined. Alchemy not only doubles the damage it also allows us to drop enchanting and restoration (among other things). The one thing alchemy can't replace is physical damage mitigation (it has amazing magic mitigation) so the option was either use heavy/light armour or go down the alteration path. I choose the alteration path for a few reasons:

    - can forgo smithing/enchanting
    - can move quicker and use a lot less stamina
    - can move much more quiet
    - alteration opens up perks like magic resist and atronach
    - the spells

You can absolutely go the route of armour but it comes with different positives and negatives. For the record it's very easy to rely on alteration without putting any points into magicka, and with using vegetable soup I'm able to put all levels into health so he's a total mage tank!

Using alchemy we can even use dragonhide (without putting any points into magicka or using enchanting to reduce cost) and can lengthen it's duration to over 3 minutes per cast...totally badass.

I must admit, I'm somewhat surprised nobody has asked me to explain how I use dualcast dragonhide without any magicka or enchanted gear...that was meant as a teaser but I guess I failed lol

I don't suppose you used the Secret of Arcana ability? You can get around the once per day limit by opening the black book and reapplying the gift. That's one way of doing it at least. If you used a different method, I'm curious to read about it.

I personally dislike the whole masterspell castingtime, as it breaks alot of the flow of battle.

But alas, I am intrigued. Please do tell

Unfortunately, no. James briefly touched upon this in the writeup: "Enchanting and Alchemy can often have very different properties and this is one of those cases where the two magical effects are very different." The Enchanting effect (including the Blessing of Auriel) *only* boosts the actual Archery skill, whereas the Alchemy effect boosts all physical damage output.

I try to never rely on once per day effects
