My Random Thoughts on Fallout 76

  • November 16, 2018

I've found a bunch of combat shotguns, they still haven't been able to out damage my pump-action one however. Hopefully I learn a mod that helps with this at some point.

Fair, if they're pretty much Fallout 4's they should have a slightly better Fire Rate, Reload Speed and less Recoil I think...Eh but a Combat Rifle is definitely going to be useful, can't stand the Hunting Rifle in this game (and forgot how much of a pain it is).

I think they're supposed to be the least unique of the cryptids in this game, since they are pretty much just a horribly mutated creature. What I've found to be both more exciting and infinitely more terrifying is the 2 Wendigos I've encountered. One was in Wendigo Cave so nothing too surprising there, the other was where I expected to find some molemen so; and Tein can second this, I almost shit myself when I encountered it.

Heh, that's cool, I'd kind of forgotten that they were a thing but it'll be nice (Horrifying) to run into them at some point. But fair enough on the Grafton Monsters, hopefully there'll be a unique one or something at some point, I do like their oil attack thing, it's kinda interesting to fight such a big monster with some nice ranged options (that aren't overpowered/guns).

Have you run into any Deathclaws yet by the way? I like that I haven't seen one yet and I'm kind of hoping that they end up being rare/one of the stronger monsters in the game (Scorchbeast obviously has to be No.1 at this point but I wouldn't mind it if Deathclaws got a huge boost from where they were in F4)

I've fought a level 40 version and danced around a level 10 with my Death Tambo while Tein watched, but have yet to find a unique version.

Yes I have, they've all been in the 20's so nothing too powerful; but then I haven't ventured into the really high level areas yet so they might show up at higher levels as well. There's a location called Deathclaw Island north of the Mothman Museum, where a single Deathclaw will spawn alongside some eggs. Also a quest will have you hunt 1 down for a reason. A previous stage of that same quest requires you to drug a Yao Guai to make it  stronger, Tein and I ran into a deathclaw while searching for one and I decided to make a stupid decision :D

So one thing I don't think I've commented on, but has anyone noticed those enemies that will drop insane amounts of equipment. I figure they're mostly the 'Crown' enemies, though I'm not sure if that's Legendary or Boss, but uh...either way sometimes they'll drop a few good items, but I literally had one drop 8 weapons and two full sets of armour, and it's just a crazy weird balance.

I'm not fully complaining if it's supposed to be a feature, but it feels like a crazy werid bug (that I can live with :P)

Just going to reverse this for fun :P Eh, figured that'd be the case, it feels like they wanted to make their mark with these new creatures so I can understand Deathclaws not recieving a huge boost (they were powerful enough late-game in Fallout 4 from what I've heard), just miss the days when a Deathclaw was something you were afraid of even if you were in Power Armour you know? Though to be fair I haven't played Survival Mode in F4, so...maybe that's how you do it..

Fine make fun of me with your Death Tamborines :P But fair enough, I suppose it's something they can add at any point (because I haven't seen many unique enemies, if any.) but I would like to see one at some point.

So at level 30 I managed to kill a Scorched Beast.

Meh, try again 25 levels ago :P Nah that's cool, the damn thing is a hell of a lot larger than it looks just flying over you (which means it's awesome) cause holy damn does that look massive.

I find myself in a weird position, I'm a person on the internet that doesn't completely hate or love this game. Since I started playing during the Beta I've made sure to watch/read content from both sides, partly to make myself think about why I'm enjoying the game and also so that I don't become one of those people who sits in an echo chamber. I've found myself agreeing with many of the complaints, from the technical side of things to the more opinion based stuff. A large part of the game works as a singleplayer experience and so I can't really argue with the people who are questioning why it was made multiplayer. Would the game have been better with Human NPCs wandering around? Yes. And yet I'm still enjoying the basic gameplay loop of discover location > explore location > read notes about what happened > repeat.

Yeah it's...it's a weird game in a lot of ways. I just can't really talk about my opinions on the game as a whole because it's...well confusing to talk about. I have no interest in playing Multiplayer (much), but I also kind of enjoy just running into people and giving them a wave or a thumb's up and moving on. I enjoy the Singleplayer experience but it feels lonely a lot of the time. I enjoy combat but it bugs out on my consistantly (shoot enemy, delay in damage lets them get a hit on me, rinse, repeat), I like the levelling system but I still haven't figured it all out yet.

For every flaw there's a side to it that I enjoy, for everything I enjoy there's a major flaw. It's hard to explain, but for some reason it's still the most fun I've had in a game since either Bloodborne or God of War, but different. I haven't had this much fun in an open-world game for a long time, but I have no idea why I'm enjoying myself you know?

    That's a perfect description.

So...I fought a Mothman (Level 1...so you know, not exactly a threat :P) and they're kind of interesting. If there's one thing that I love about the various Cryptids, or even just the normal monsters it's their new powers. I don't know how they justify everything (I mean...obviously Radiation in the same way that most universes use Magic as an explanation for everything) but it's awesome to see some real creativity beyond "BIG THING SMASH", "LITTE THING SHOOT", "SOME THINGS GO BOOM". Which is a bit simplistic, but a fair bit closer than we may care to admit :P

Wendigos are fucking terrifying. To be fair the one I ran into was a Glowing Wendigo, Level 42 followed by at least 4 Feral Ghouls (28-35) and I'm a mere Level 16 so you know...that was a fuck up and a half to be honest. But they're really nice, kind of wish I ran into it at night so it'd be even more terrifying. Oh and Snallygaster's (Spelling?) are kind of awesome, I mean they're disgusting but the Acid Spit attack is rather interesting and they're tough as shit, that was my last death.
