Dagoth-Ur: Bad Guy Or Just Misunderstood?

  • August 25, 2015

I believe it's something to do with the Dreamsleeve but I admit I don't have as firm of a grasp on that, maybe Phil can explain it better than me?

Dreamsleeve. That word popped up many times in that article. I have no clue what´s that.

Dream of dream withing a dream maybe?

My basic understanding of the Dreamsleeve is it's something like a big bank of consciousness\souls and when someone is born that soul gets gets made in to a person and when they die the soul goes back to the bank and waits for it to be reincarnated in another kalpa. But again I may be wrong and I'm sure someone will let us know lol

This has to do something with Arkay, right? I remember something reading about this some time ago and it was related to Arkay somehow.

Well Arkay being the god of the cycle of birth and death I would think he would almost have to be involved in some way.

    Ok, let´s summarize this.

Dagoth Ur died (maybe killed by Tribunal) but because he was already connected to the Heart, he was "aware" when his soul got into Dreamsleeve and has been dreaming about being alive. This way he might have reached CHIM, but reversed. He isn´t outside the Wheel but in the middle of it, so he sees endless "I" and that makes him think that his dream is the creation itself.

    How I´m doing so far?

    That's about right I think.

So Dagoth Ur himself died, but he dreamt he lived. Through his experiments with the Heart he saw his false symbolism of the ‘I’, and he lived from the place of death and simply put manifestations of his dream into the real world (and perhaps this is why when slain the Nerevarine spoke of his body turning to nothing; his body was “not yet real”, just a ‘dream’, and with the mind destroyed it could no longer sustain itself so it was simply wisped away and with the Heart gone it could not immediately return in power). These manifestations were able to tap the Heart directly to create Dagoth Ur as the world knew him. As the Sixth House cultists said “Only He is Awake!/Only He is Alive!” And indeed they were right, for no other was awake while dead. Arkved said of the dreamworld “I am the lord of limitless space”, as the Cultists said “He is All Things!”

This summs it rather well. I´m interested to see Phil´s opinion.
