An Argument for 'Bash Damage'

Oh wow, for some reason I totally forgot that you could just block with a bow, without bashing. Brainfart.  I'm checking your build now; not sure how I missed it before. From a quick glance, it looks really good. I'm a sucker for a close combat archer. This will be a fun read!

Demon hunter and Arbalist got me into crossbow bashing, it's extremely satisfying

I've already got the majority of this build planned out on paper. Looks somewhat inspired by those two builds, and Zach's Sternguard. But the Unarmed, Bashing, and MFD stuff make it a beast in its own class. When I've drafted it a bit more, I'll PM it to you if you're interested. I'd love to see your thoughts on all this fantastic info put to action by one of your readers.

Just be sure to never use enhanced crossbows with MFD!

I didn't try it out specifically but it should, bashing with enchanted weapons can proc the enchantment...although I don't recall if it's 100% of the time, something for me to look into. The ebony blade is kind of wonky for bashing because it has such a low base damage (it seems like it was always intended to be a 1-hand sword) so you wouldn't be doing huge amounts of bash damage. I wager one could use the champion's cudgel to great effect.

This does make me wonder about using the blackbow of fate with it's absorbs...

Excellent! Your mini-hype about this argument was well deserved.

What I'm beginnig to see is a saga of gameplay mechanics designed to rival enchanting and smithing for the crown of overpowered aspects. That is with adept difficulty, since on legendary these tactics are somewhat of a must, to keep the pace of battle enjoyable.

Block is going to be a main factor for my next character, designed to be my personal 'ultimate build'.

Best thing about these arguments is that they stay true to the game, as I shunn away from fortify restoration buffs and loops and don't think of them as viable for me.

I am in an information overload and need to organize my skyrim experience correctly. One thing I do know, is that without these posts I dont think I would have discovered these things on my own.

I hope you do post that Monk build. If you have questions/concerns about posting a build, or just want some feedback or anything like that, I'd be happy to provide some input.

I've been spending this evening/night drafting and revising a concept for a build that combines your findings on bashing, unarmed, and MFD. I'm really happy with how it's coming together, and can't wait to see how it works in action.

I think at this point, I actually will put my other build on hold to give this a shot. It's only shaping up to be a level 30-35 build, and it should level pretty quickly. I could probably have ready to be posted within a week, maybe even a few days if testing goes well. I'd love some input from you if you're interested, James. Maybe I could send the draft to you...

But like I said before, I think you deserve to be the one who first brings these discoveries to the CB group. So you should post your Monk!

Another awesome post James! A question, do you know whether the +10 damage from the Dawnguard Shield is multiplied with Sneak attacks? And is it only against vampires or the undead are affected as well?

I'm currently running a block/bash only character on Master and it is extremely overpowered so far, this type of character can more than hold it's own on Master without using much crafting I believe. As of right now I haven't started using alchemy and I'm only leaning on the strength of MFD but I think that will change soon.
My original goal was to find a way to make unarmed viable on Master difficulty without using things like gauntlet stacking or restoration loop and to much joy I did find it. The long standing belief is that these things are necessary to play this style but I hope to change people's minds on that.
Legendary might be a different story though.
