We actually do have that discussion, mostly. These Discussions are for more general discussion, as long as it relates to what we cover in the Gaming Corner (Builds, Roleplaying, Lore, Tips) otherwise it would go in the Forums.

I think one of the main problems of the General Gaming Corner is that most people (IMO of course) dont want / cant spend their money on most games that have building potencial.
(Just an example:) Let's say Far Cry Primal comes out and you guys start to make awesome builds and the people who look at them honestly say: "Oh wow, I would definitely play this, if I would own the game itself." The point is that those people probably wont ever own the game because they cant afford it. So builds of this game wont ever be a great success because there are like 5 people able to play it (like I said, it's an example).

Trashtalk aside, there are two things I want to say:
    1) I think general gaming wont become big without free, no-pay-to-win/play-games (additional content like weapons or whatever could still be bought with real money, without beeing necessary because they could be farmed too).

    2) We have to find a way to attract people to play the games we make builds for. It wont work like Skyrim (which everbody owns) does. Making people think "I could easiely download this game and play those awesome builds", is in my opinion the way to go.

The only type of game I can think of that fits that bill would be a Free-to-Play MMORPG. There are two big problems MMOs have when it comes to building.

One, the meta (what's viable, whats obsolete etc) changes quite often. Second, most end game MMO content revolve around group raids/boss fights, and most raid leaders and/or guild leaders will demand optimized kits from their participants.

What that means is your specialized, balanced, lore friendly character will get tossed aside in favor of any god-like power gaming build that comes along. Basically something like the Paladin of Molag Bal, while considered a joke here, would be a very desirable team pick in an MMO.

I see your point here and I agree, based on my own experience, but I also think that there are free games that do not work like this but still allow a "together". Games where it doesn't really matter how strong your character is and where let's say skill in using that specific weapon/class/utility, is able to defeat the "how strong?/comparison"-question.

You can easily download a lot of games, KOTOR in particular I know is out there. It's not exactly what some people might call "legal," but it's out there for free. Especially when it comes to older games, emulators have come a long way

I'd rather stay away from forcing people to do something illegal only for beeing able to play a build. But that's my opinion ofc.

Agreed, I'm not forcing or encouraging, just saying it's possible. I agree with you to an extent, but people had to buy Skyrim and Fallout to be involved with those games. In Skyrim's case people wanted to because it's a good game. If this KOTOR remake is that good people will want to buy it whether there is a place to talk about it or not. Generally speaking the groups will be smaller than the Skyrim build group, but if there is a game we talk about here that catches fire, the group will catch fire too

I'm talking about this site(s future) only. I'd say people also bought Skyrim because there was this site here even before release (if I'm not totally mistaken), and I dont think Skyrim is a good example because the site is all about that one game, Fallout came way later and even if the KOTOR remake is such an success that people are actually buying it to make/play builds, it's only 'one game, if you understand what I mean.

I actually think it might be a good idea for the gaming corner to focus more on game discussions rather than builds. No individual game is going to have anywhere close to the same following as skyrim or even fallout 4 around here, and that's ok. You'd probably draw more people to this group by catering to their desire to discuss games rather than try to make a build from them

Sure, maybe this site helped promote it, but if it wasn't a good game the site wouldn't have been talking about it years after it came out. This area of the site's popularity will depend on a game that's worth playing and talking about. I don't plan on getting every single game that people talk about here by any means, and you're 100% right that conversations will be smaller because of that kind of thing. If a must own game comes out people are gonna get it. Hopefully the must own game will have build potential and trickle into here. I see what you're saying though, the site has to make it until that day comes. Fingers crossed, right?
