Lore Discussion: Standing Stones/Doomstones and Birthsigns

  • August 22, 2018

"Ride wagon from cities, towns, and settlements, with vanilla recorded commentary."

No idea if anyone still going to read this or even would be interested.
There are a few lines recored for the carriage drivers concerning the standing stones in skyrim.
2 that I remember by heart:

    - As luck would have it I was born under the Steed.
    - I should visit my doomstone one day, it's not far from here. (While near the Steed stone.)

This would indicate that being born under a sign is still a thing in skyrim, only the dialogue never made it into the full release.
Secondly making a 'pilgrimace' to the doom/standing stone of your birthsign does happen, even by commoners.

In my opinion the standing stones took the place of chosing a birthsign at the start, mostly intented to incentivise exploration.
As the in-game effects do resemble those described in the Firmament.
The lore deals with this by dropping many "we don't know for sure" information. (Do feel like standing stones only 'work' for people under their sign or those who have more control over their destiny like the dragonborn.)
I do hope TES:VI will provide some answers, but wouldn't be surprised if they have another system in place once again.

A carriage driver born under the Steed. Ha, I'd say he found his calling (is probably too tall to be a jocky). Interesting :)
