  A popular one is this Jack Sparrow piece - link

  You can see within the first few seconds he's placed his lines and then set up a gradient for the background. He has the advantage in that he probably already knows exactly how the image is going to look before he even starts (from a photo maybe).

  In short Curse, it's about experience. Artists who can paint like that almost definitely start out drawing exactly how you do.

  Practically though, an exercise you could use is to simply select one of your earlier pictures that you really like and then re-create it as quickly as possible...

  ...then do it again, and again....

  When you do this patterns are going to start to form, you're going to start skipping stages that you previously felt were important because they have no bearing on the quality of the end product.

  These skills slowly translate into future original work...

  I believe the idea is to have some common elements in all your pictures. A facial feature or something else, something that you can easily reproduce in a very short time. The more such basic elements you have, the faster you'll be able to produce paintings and the more detailed they'll become.

  I've decided to put this thread to use, so here goes 

  I'm not 100% certain but I think I might have messed up the proportions on this (It may all just be in my head and I'm being overly critical of it) so I was wondering if anyone could give their opinion on it

  Hi Golden :-) The helm and body armour are great, these should work out well. I think it might be the legs need bringing into proportion, they don't look like they will hold him up. Maybe a bit thicker and longer as the arms are longer at the moment :-)

  I knew the legs were off, but looking at it again after a break I've just realised by how much. I've also just realised that the arms would probably snap at the first hint of battle so I'll adjust those as well.

  Dont be afraid to make your female character's more muscular. Anyone regardless of gender would need to be pretty strong to fight in heavy armor. Overall I think you did a good job with this one Golden. The armor looks especially nice.

  Im starting to see that lately. I've recently timed how fast I could go from zero to completed line art. I came up with this in about an hour, which is over 3 times faster than I used to be able to do this:
