nice! welcome officially! I'm calling it quits for the night, but made it through the Deathclaw fight in Concord at level 6 (with lots of hiding in buidlings) lol. Surviving for another day!

I'm so tempted to do this, but as you probably saw yesterday I'm not the best at staying alive. Especially when the way I am currently approaching survival can be summed up in a single sentence "Who needs sneak when you have a shotgun".

I just finished When Freedom Calls at level 5, so it's as good a time as any to get this started.

Yeah, I did it the same way. I hid in that little tool shop, let the poor raiders chip away what they could, then VATS'd the hell out of that thing's head. Unfortunately, my power armor ran out of charge when I was walking back to Sanctuary, so I had to leave it at Red Rocket (turns out you can still walk when you have no power?). Also unfortunately, this means I'll have to make the journey to Diamond City without power armor. Pray for me.

[/blockquote] dude just go down in the mole rat den under Red Rocket and get a fresh core! or walk over to the robotics junk yard and get three by making the sentry self destruct!

And so it is finished...on the way to USAF Olivia for the Abernathy's quest, I ran into a pack of mongrels. I thought I had mopped them up, until I took about a 60% loss of health from behind. Dogmeat was already downed, and I didn't have time to stim him. I ran to the top of the hill, but I had had to sprint, and so I didn't have any AP left to VATS with. Coupled with the insomnia I had just recieved from not sleeping for awhile, I just didn't have enough AP to get the job done. I hit a few shots while it ran up the hill and got it to about 50% health (this is after the transformation) then dodged out of the way and ran down. I was out of AP when I reached the bottom, and it charged back down. I sprayed wildly with my upgraded 10mm, but to no avail. The creature killed me in two hits. 

RIP Aldous. What type of build should I try next?

Yeah I did both, but I was going in a circle around Red Rocket and so didn't go straight back to my PA. Would've helped with the mongrels for sure.
