True. It seems likely that most Tongue's died in those old battles, and most, if not all survivors joined Jurgen.

According to the UESP on Daedric Alphabet,: Daedric text also appears on the tomb of Jurgen Windcaller where it spells out "WINDCALLER"

I'm pleased to learn there is an actual Daedric alphabet available, thought I'd share this translation if it hasn't already been found

Thanks for clarifying, Casey. I do appreciate your insight and agree with you and Borom that the Tongues, most likely, died out, either at the Battle of Red Mountain or in other battles. "Season Unending."

You've provided nothing to suggest any of your points are or could be true.

Apart from the fact that there is no distinction in-game between Dragon Cult Era burials and 1st Era Burials, that Olaf has a Word Wall which are written in the Dragon language and that his tomb is infested with draugr which are reanimated.

I admit I am reaching with the Olaf idea  There is something fishy going on there, the game tells us that much

I think your thoughts in your evidence are tremendously valuable as it gives us the problems nice and clearly. I'm just trying to plug those holes with logical speculation. To think that in some dungeons the dead have risen for one reason while in others they've risen for another without a visible cause to explain the distinction is unsatisfactory to me, but not necessarily wrong.

I have to say that I really appreciate the Lore Group discussions of late: this one and Phil's Dragon Cult article. The posts and subsequent comments have been very helpful and thought provoking. More than that, I'm happy to see new life breathed into the group. TES lore is absolutely amazing and, in my opinion, the "gaps" in the lore keep me hooked!

I think I'm to blame for this. One of the compelling things about the Way of the Voice to me could lie in the fact that it may have it's roots in the Dragon Cult. I have no evidence but I like to think the line

“The Way of the Voice teaches that the Voice must be used only for the worship and glory of the gods...  Only in the contemplation of the Sky, Kynareth's domain and the practice of the Voice...”

Before Kyne there was the Hawk, revered by the Dragon Cult. Before there was the Hawk there was the Dragon. There is no reason why a benevolent version of the cult wouldn't worship the sky, the domain of the hawk and dragon.

May also apply to the worship of dragons.

So priests and dragons standing at the highest peaks shouting at the sky isn't too different from the Greybeards. The difference is that the Greybeards lost their way and won't use the voice for anything but the glory of the gods. I'm sure their voices would have been valuable during the Oblivion Crisis but maybe that was all part of Mora's plan.

Well, he's in Sovengarde, perhaps it's some other dude named Olaf with one eye?

Agreed Vaaljorn, it's also nice to see people taking part and proving that lore needn't be the big scary place new comers often see it as  All voices are welcome here!

Very interesting thought! The idea of another dragon cult would make for a great story, like post-apocalyptic TES fanfiction. Also makes the choice between Paarthurnax and the Blades seem a little less black-and-white.

I couldn't help myself, had to replay Ustengrav. Left the burial mound wondering if those things which come up out of the water are dragons, hawks or pincers. Also, he has a dragon picture on his tomb as well as dragon heads at each corner. Strange for someone with no connection to dragons, unless they're there as odes to Paarthurnax. Unless, of course, the dragon motifs are saying "her lies one of the dov".
