Do you like diverse gameplay involving melee, stealth and spellcasting. Do you like controlling the battlefield and your enemies? Do you like marking a prey and then trying to plan ahead and finding the best way in? Then you my friend are recruited to the order of the Paralyzing Shadows. We are an old and secret order, created to hunt down the wicked users of foul magic’s and lay judgment on them.

    The Paralyzing Shadow

There are plenty of builds on paladins and warrior priests, but a big organized group must also have more quiet and secret means of disposing the wicked.  Even though some division of the holy group would defect if they found out, there are assassins in the ranks of the order.

The Shadows(as they are often referred to as) are mainly used to take out high ranking magic users that have been deemed corrupted or are simply in the way of the organization.

Members of the Paralyzing Shadows are just as devoted and resolute as the paladins and priests; they just know that sometimes other means must be used when dealing out judgment. Youngsters in the recruitment programs for the other orders that show a certain talent and unquestioning devotion are drafted to this secret branch.

The best way to take out a magic users are to shut them down before they even can cast any of their foul magic’s. Alteration and Restoration are the only pure magic in the eyes of the order, but the students of the shadows learn to keep casting spells even while hidden with the help of illusion magic’s. This is one of the Shadows biggest and best kept secrets.

They are also the only members of the order that can bend the rules as long as they get the job done.

    The Build

This build was born out of three things, my love for battlefield control, stealth without daggers or bows and righteous warriors. I also wanted a “holy” warrior that was a little freer in the moral division, I think it’s hard and quite boring to play skyrim as the all good paladin and it brings some shades of gray instead of black and white.

Alot of questlines can be justified with a little imagination, only you decide what is ok. Example; Join the dark brotherhood bacuse you heard that the nightmother is about resurface and you need to get close to her to finish the job.

I wanted a hybrid between battelmage and assassin that was capable of sneaking and using control spells instead of destruction as an offensive tactic. Illusion feels to stealth focused for me and the max lvl requirements on enemies made it so I didn’t want to focus the build on it. Before the dlc (dragonborn) alteration lacked a good combatcontrol spell until you got 75 in it and had quite a boring book of spells. In the Dragonborn DLC there are three new spells that really got me going.

Ash Shell (50 Alteration) -Targets that fail to resist are immobilized in hardened ash for 30 seconds

Ash Rune (75 Alteration) -Cast on a nearby surface, it explodes when enemies are nearby, immobilizing them in hardened ash for 30 seconds

Poison Rune (50 Restoration) -Targets that fail to resist take 3 points of damage per second for 30 seconds

In my head this character is a type of bounty hunter/assassin with a greater mission. Sneak in and start setting up your battleground with the runes, sneak attack and then lock some enemies while you kill the rest. Function as a hybrid between a regular assassins and a battlemage.

    The Crunch

Race: Any are accepted into the order. But high elves are very unusual.

Major Skills: Alteration, One Handed, Light Armor

    Minor Skills: Stealth, Restoration, Illusion

    Non-mandatory Skills: Enchanting, Smithing

Shouts: Become Ethereal, Marked for Death and Throw Voice.

Stones: Lover for leveling, then Shadow or Lord.

    Stats Ratio: 2 Magica/ 2 Health/ 1 Stamina

Spells often used by the shadows

    • Flesh spells
    • Detect life
    • Paralyze
    • Mass Paralyze
    • Ash Shell
    • Ash Rune
    • Muffle
    • Healing Spells
    • Wards
    • Poison Rune

    Gear

I prefer to make my own enchanted gear. Both the rp aspect of an assassin tailoring his own gear for the mission and that i dont have to do any quests that goes against my alignment(although with the shadows the goals often justifies the means).

Gear for non enchanters and smiths

Weapon: Dawnbreaker (for dealing with mages pesky minions), Bolar´s oathblade (agile assassin type blade) or Chillrend(its kewl).

Head: Hood or light helmet with fortify alteration

Chest: Nightingale Armor or Guild Master's Armor

    Hands: Nightingale Gloves

    Feet: Shrouded boots

    Ring: Fortify OneHanded

Neck: Resist Magic or Fortify Alteration

Gadgets: What would an assassin be without gadgets? The new spider "scrolls" from Dragonborn makes a great addition for a sneaky type gadget, get them!

If you are making your own gear:

Weapon: One Sword with Paralyze and Drain Magica for mages. One sword with Paralyze and Drain Health for regular targets.

Head: Hood or assassin type headgear with Fortify Restoration and Fortify Alteration

Chest: I prefer Novice Robes, they look cool. But any assassin type light armor works. Fortify Restoration and Fortify Alteration

Hands: Assassin type gloves,Fortify Onehanded and Sneak

Feet: Assassin type shoes, Fortify Onehanded and Muffle

Ring: Resist Magic and Fortify OneHanded

Neck: Resist Magic and Fortify OneHanded

    Gadgets: Spider scrolls

    Perk allocation

    Level 30

     Level 50 Build

    Special Moves

     -Divine Purpose

Atronach + Magic Resistance + Heal + Respite

You have a divine purpose to slay the users of foul magic´s. The lord will protect and strengthen you when assaulted by magic. Regain your health and use the lords replenishment to retreat or to unleash a fury of blows.

    -The weight of sins

Stealth + Ash Rune+ Throw Voice

Lure your target into the Rune and the lord shall pass his judgement on the target. If his sins are great he will be encased in the ashes of a thousand sinner that burned in "hell".

    -Stay your blade

Become Etheral or Quitcasting/stealth + Mass Paralysis

Some people are just in the wrong spot at the wrong time, as important as it is to know when to kill its also important to know when not to. Use the lords protection from harm to paralyze the crowd and kill your taget, then retreat.

Thanks to Vazgen for all the help!

Do you have any special moves for this bad boy? I'll be interested to see how you use the ash rune. I find that its awesome as an "oh shit" button when you're over run, but the effect just lasts sooooo long!

I will try to get the "Special Moves" list upp soon, just need some more testing.

The Ash Rune is great as an escape yes, but combined with throw voice when in stealth you can remove one badguy from the coming fight.

As much as I want to like this build... I can't see myself playing it, because that would require me to level alteration, which is a magic school I absolutely hate with every fiber of my being. +1 for me, I just won't play it... Sorry

I understand what u mean :) In the beginning its just casting flesh-spells all the time. But with the new spells it gets more fun.

Can use a little work on presentation, make text a little smaller put a perk spread picture and move the special moves next to their respective icons. Other than that solid build! +1
