Welcome to The Fallout Character Build Archives! On this page all of the group's character builds can be navigated quickly through our tag network. Builds found here are specialized by game and playstyle so you can refine your search and find the perfect Fallout character. You can also find event tags and original thread links to all past events at the bottom of this archive.

Joining The Archive: To display your own builds in the archive you simply need to place archive tags on your character build. You should carefully select the tags that best describe your character's most prominent characteristics to help people locate your build faster.

In addition to a required Game Tag, all character builds are allowed up to 5 playstyle tags and the "Character Build Mods" tag if the build uses mods. Event builds are allowed an additional tag which is designated by each event. The hosts may remove any tags that go over these limits. Please note we've added two tags to cover characters that use multiple combat and crafting skills.

Playstyle Tags: All class tags require "Character Build" at the beginning of them (no quotations). For example, Character Build Gunslinger is how you'd format the gunslinger class tag on your build.

Unarmed – no weapons, but includes special “unarmed” weapons such as the power fist, meat hook, knuckles, etc.

Melee – extensive use of melee weapons

    Gunslinger – pistol users

Sharpshooter – snipers and long-range rifles

Daredevil - getting close and personal with shotguns

    Commando – automatic guns

    Big Guns – heavy weaponry

Power Armor - character who takes advantage of Power Armor

    Infiltrator – stealth based characters

Energy Weapons - characters relying on laser, plasma and other energy based weaponry.

Enhanced – use of game mechanics in inventive ways to simulate witchcraft, superpowers, or creative ways not described in other tags

Chemist – use of chems, and or other concoctions to enhance character play

Craftsman - character relies heavily on crafting and/or the use of settlement building

Grenadier - character uses explosives as an integral part of combat

VATS - character uses VATS as an integral part of gameplay

Mods - character uses mods to enhance the gameplay

Survival - Builds specifically designed to navigate the brutal Survival Mode.

Automatron - Builds that rely heavily on combat support, role-play and gerenal use of Robot Companions and their modifications.

Marksman - character uses multiple (more than 2) ballistic skills (gunslinger, rifleman, commando, big guns, shottys)

Handyman - character uses multiple (more than 2) ancillary tactics (explosives, crafting, settlements, chemistry, etc)

Game Tags: All character builds are allowed one game tag referring to the game they were made for. All game tags require "Build" at the end of of them. For example, Fallout NV Build is how you'd format a Fallout New Vegas Build. Following is a list of all thee possible game tags.

    Fallout 3 Build
    Fallout NV Build
    Fallout 4 Build

Disclaimer: This archive was established by the hosts for all of the existing builds on the Vault. If you feel the tags assigned to your existing build do not match the playstyle of your character, feel free to adjust them according to the list above.

Past Event Tags: The following completed events have their own tags. Use these to look through past event builds

Event:Comic Books (Feb 2017) with original thread here: Fallout Comic Books

Event:Secret Origins (May-June 2017) with original thread here: Secret Origins

Event: Radio Stars (July - Aug 2017) with original thread here: Fallout Radio Stars

Event:Stranger Things (Oct-Nov 2017) with original thread here: Fallout Stranger Things

Event: Arms & Artifacts (Feb 2018) with original thread here: Fallout Arms & Artifacts

Event: Cyberpunk (June 2018) with original thread here: Fallout Cyberpunk 2287

    How to Find a Build:

If there's a build you're looking for there are many options. If it's a general playstyle - use the above tags. If it's an event build, check the event tags above. If however, you're looking for a general style recommendation, you can also ask our community for assistance in the Build Recommendation forum. If you know the name of the build, the easiest path is most likely putting the build name with the game abbreviation in the search bar (top left of every page). For example, I might search "The Vagabond (FO4)" in the search bar to find MaddMannatee's epic ranger build

Nice job guys. Maybe have a VATS tag for builds that make significant use of it?

hmm you know...that's not a bad idea at all. The only thing I'm wondering is - if there are enough builds that specifically exclude VATs to make a VATs tag useful? I know I ran one playthrough with a self imposed no-vats rule, but didn't post it as a build. But idk...a build like Domino which specifically utilizes/abuses the mechanic might be better described with a VATs tag...what are your thought? I could go either way.

There are builds that make use of VATS in their playstyle (i.e. pretty much every build that doesn't make it a point to avoid it) and then there are builds that have VATS-heavy playstyles (like Mason's Domino or my Heavy). I imagine that there are enough builds of the latter variety to warrant a VATS tag, but that's just me.

We now have VATS and builds tagged with it. Thanks for the suggestion Albino! :) We're always open to it.

Happy to report that as of now, every FO4 build in the Archives has been restored with pictures from the original Ning site! Looking pretty sweet around here :)

Thanks for the help from Wu, Al, Noodles and others that took care of their own as well as others.

Can you add a tag that covers Gunslinger, Commando and Sharpshooter? Because some people might think of including all three tags for a build that has not just Marksman prowess but also has e.g. Chemist traits. It will be very useful to identify a versatile build in ballistic weaponry and saves 2 spaces that someone might want to fill in. It will be useful for combination builds and the tags would be like: Marksman, Chemist, Craftsman.

    What do you reckon?
