ESO Homes: Exorcised Coven Cottage

So with encouragement from Phil and Goldie, I've decided to post my own little spot in Tamriel. Unlocked during last year's Witches Festival, I have decorated this little spot tucked away in Glenumbra's Hag's Fen accordingly. There are a few of my touches here and there, but I wanted to try and stick with the spirit of this place. Warning: spooky furnishings and awful jokes ahead.

    EXORCISED COVEN COTTAGE

Here at the cottage gate, I've added a little dovah fly to greet you. For those unfamiliar with Glenumbra, Hag's Fen is a low-lying wetland area along the sea, and I imagine that this little water-loving, Vvardenfell native would be quite at home on shores of Glenumbra. The clockwork curiousity doesn't really mean anything, I just liked the way it looked there. :)

Further up the path and along the side wall, I've put together a little hang out spot, complete with firepit for keeping toasty, cot for resting on, or, if you're a more arboreal type, a small hammock. A small housecat name Deathstare (any witch's true companion) makes itself at home on a plush khajiiti stool near the fire. This little guy came to me in a free crate and though I don't really use him much in game, I love keeping him here.

A shot from along the side of the yard shows the number of torches and lighting elements I have around the premises. While I love this creepy little spot, it's pretty dark... All. The. Time. To make it slightly more welcoming, Nord torches dot the courtyard, and a candle in the window of the cottage lets you know, "The Witch is in." These bone and driftwood totems also make it clear that if you're not down with the coven, you better turn tail.

Like a moth to flame, a little Turquoise Nixad keeps warm at the bonfire. Believed to have magical properties, these little guys are hands down, my favorite noncombat pet. They chatter, turn sommersaults, twirl, giggle, sneeze magic dust, groom themselves and chow down on torchbugs. I mean honestly, what more could you want in a small creature? A Great Elk mount sips water a nearby trough, and more weird bone totems decorate the front lawn.

    So let's go inside!

    WELCOME...

So as you probably already notice, this place, while witchy in overall vibe, has a distinct multicultural vibe going on. Bosmeri, redguard, khajiiti, argonian, nord decor all co-exist in this space. This is equal parts because these are the furnishing styles my character knows :D and because I like the way they look together.

Alchemy and enchanting tables provide the necessary utility inside, and a small provisioning fire is also available right outside for all manners of consumable crafting. The knick knacks I just thought were cool and added ambiance.

Located along Iliac Bay, this small, brackish inlet on the water's edge has supported the growth of a number of water plantae and provided safe harbor for various corals, used primarily in alchemical applications. Or at least, that's my headcanon. :)

Here also is a small shrine area, complete with necessary undercroft furnishings for all your ritualistic and ceremonial needs. While I'm not sure that the local coven workships Akatosh... what can I say, I like what I like! :D

I think that pretty much covers everything. That's for checking out my little spot in Hag's Fen!

    You did it!

This has really changed since the last time I stopped by to mess with things, I might need to investigate in person. I was a little confused when I saw that first interior shot, I thought it was a loading screen image for a moment and quite a few of the other's would not be out of place. Looking at all of the clutter that you have around the place reminds me that I should probably start collecting those types of furnishing so that I can improve my inn rooms.

Haha, nice! And a video too :D Having been there to make use of your crafting stations and relax in the hammock from time to time, especially after extended questing, the atmosphere of the place cannot be denied and is evident in this showcase. It's a really impressive house and I think you've done a great job of adding your own personality to it, leaving it slightly spooky and mysterious, yet also very comfortable and welcoming. I really like the lighting effect of the green fire from the Hagraven Cauldron and how it shines off the water, illuminating the mud crab enjoying her meal. The other creatures are also really sweet, too. Yep, stunning work here, a true pleasure to visit.

I've noticed that the old bug of rain inside the cottage has been fixed, making it that much more of a desirable residence. Plenty of exterior space you've made great use of, whilst inside feels lived in and appreciated. Love it!

Edit: Inspirational RP elements and attention to the setting's climate and geography in your write-up have made me smile.

Wow, there's so many things left for me to discover in this game...

HOUSECAT. I can’t have a cat IRL so there needs to be one in Skyrim! These houses are cool, and am I right in gleaning from the comments that you guys can visit each other’s houses in he game? That would be fun to walk into your house and find someone else just chilling by the fire.

I'm both flattered and honored that you thought it was a load screen for a second! :D  I took some inspiration from the original load screen for this place (mainly the invy crawling up the sides and on the hearth), switched up a few things to make it my own. I have changed it up quite a bit though. I actually had it decorated for Jester's Festival with some flags leading up the path, and that's when I put in the cherry blossom tree from last year's festival. I should probably take it out now though and replace it with a giant gloomy willow or something.

And I love the little bits of clutter. It definitely makes it feel more lived in and there are so many things you can do with them. So now when I find small furnishings with my thief character I just launder them and stick them in the bank. :) Off the top of my head, the small vial on the table, ivory tusk, dice, quill, letters, gears, and letters, stacks of paper were all obtained that way. I think I bought the soul gems from achievement furnishers, but they weren't much, a few hundred or a thousand gold maybe...?

Thanks, Phil! Yeah the rain inside bug was a bit of a downer, so I'm glad it's been remedied. I would definitely recommend this spot to someone if it comes up again for this year's Witches Festival. I think it was only about 12-13k in gold for unfurnished if you get the Sparing Harvest achievement, so even though it's seasonal, it's one of the most affordable free-standing homes available. And the unfurnished version is quite bare bones, so obviously it doesn't have to be decked out this way.

I still want to do something more with that space in the back of the house where I have that cauldron, but I'm not sure what. I'll have to give it a bit of a think, but I might have to start being more strategic with my collectibles and their placement. I know I've maxed the number of critters I have about. :D

I really feel like there's never been a better time to be an ESO player. The newer content is cool, they improved (I think) a lot of systems and there's more new stuff on the way. :D

Haha... I've been playing for over a year now and sometimes I still feel that way! xD

Yeah! So the way it works is you can own as many houses as you want, but you can set one as your "primary residence." That's the one your friends can visit, and you can even give them decorating privileges, if you want. So if I ever get a new spot and decide to make it my primary residence, no one could see this particular place but me. But you can move your collectibles around from place to place. They're not bound to a certain location. :)  And you can switch up your primary residence whenever you want, too.

We're also in the very beginning stages of planning out a guild hall for the guild on PC NA, so anyone in the guild could come to the common space to use crafting tables, practice target dummies, things like that. :)
