Help With Build

I will be getting ESO very soon (should be within the week) and I have an idea for my first character built up but I'm not exactly sure how to build him. The build will be based on roleplay instead of viability and I'm not doing PVP. The character is a Shadowscale and an experiment during his training (at the moment around 40 years before the start of ESO), instead of being trained in traditional stealth techniques employed by the Shadowscales they taught him Shadow magic instead to see how he'd perform compared to other Shadowscales. He was still trained in stealth techniques and prefers that to open combat but he uses more Shadow magic than actual stealth techniques. What I'm thinking is an assassin focused around the Shadow and Siphon trees with some light investment in Assassination. He will likely use dual wield and a bow. Anybody got any ideas for this?

I think that sounds good. I can't really speak too much to what skills or anything to use but I would honestly check out some Youtube build videos. They often have written links too. I do this for what skills are pretty common, some playstyles, and most importantly what morphs are best for your skills. Sorry if that wasn't very helpful! Good luck!

Okay, Ebon. So when it comes to Nightblades I can't offer much. Assassination, stealth, Shadowscales, Sithis... I am as much of a fan of that now as I was back when I first started playing TES and rolling my eyes at the goth horse :D But, when looking at builds on YT - never a bad thing - but sometimes it might not have the answers you seek right now.

See, builds for ESO generally assume you're CP 160+, have done every guild quest and have access to the cream of the skills crop. They recommend sets you'll only get by playing dungeons. Like, if Ebonslayer wants to wear Ebon Armory, he'll need to do Crypt of Hearts. And there's not much advantage in getting a full set of Ebon Armory below 160 as you'll out-level it.

That leads many players to think that getting to 160+ is the way to enjoy ESO. That is also not necessarilly how you want to play, you know? You might want to enjoy the journey and see CP levels as just a stage along that path of character devolopment.

Honestly, if this is your first ESO experience, I can't recommend Paul's blog series highly enough. In his latest chapter he lists his NB character's level 23 skills and morphs. He'll talk you through choosing a stamina build or magicka build, when to decide if you want to go crafting, and many other things. Decisions like what Mundus Stone to pick can determine damage and resistances, can be pretty overwhelming. You'll know yourself when you play what suits you and what you enjoy :) It's easy to get drawn to the meta-game mindset, but if your focus is on story, character and setting, I'd say don't sweat builds for now :)

I was going to mention my beginners guide but Phil got here before me (Thanks mate)

The Table of Contents is at https://tamrielvault.com/groups/topic/view/group_id/9/topic_id/9311  Feel free to ask if there's anything else you want to know. Obviously its a Khajiit, not an Argonian, but its a Nightblade so the development of Shadow and Siphon skills is all in there.

Phil's right - what passes for 'builds' on YouTube inevitably means 'end game build', essentially they simply grind levels 1 to 50 and then they start the build. If that's how people want to play, hey it's there game - but that's not for me. I created the San-daro series specifically for people, maybe coming from Skyrim, who enjoy just playing and questing through those early to mid levels.

Hopefully you'll find some useful tips there
