ESO: The Personal Touch - Beginner's Help and Tutoring

I've been a long time WoW player. A very long time. Think from vanilla long time.
I also like RPG. Been a long time player of RPGs. Think Neverwinter Nights 1 old.
I saw ESO 2 years ago. I wrote it off due to it's infancy as an MMORPG, but captivated by it's RPG elements. Still stuck with modded skyrim.
I saw ESO 1 year ago, with some improvement and graglorn. I watched it. Still stuck with modded skyrim.
I see ESO now with Morrowind on it.  Decent MMO elements with immense RPG elements. I want in.

I like entropic plystyle. Curses, damage over time, life steal based attacks & spells, lotsa minions or demons, etc.
I also like hybrid classes, my favorite being the battlemage class of original D&d cause of the freedom it provided.
Skyrim did it right. MMO's in general either don't touch such classes or create some hybrid classes but don't call them battlemages.
Or even if they do, it comes with limitations.

I saw ESO being able to do both, but like MMO's still limit choices to a 'base class" like sorceror, dragonknight, nightblade, etc.
    I don't like such limitations.
I want to play ESO, but the above factors and some other limit me.

Someone please help guide and help me make the choice relevant.

    Thanks.

Hey, Warlock! I've been a big fan of your Skyrim builds.

I completely understand your concerns over class limitations, and it's clear that you understand the limitations that MMOs put on your preferred playstyle. That said, no one can convince you to play ESO. That's something you have to wrestle with. All I can do is tell you whether or not you can play according to your favorite style. After that, it's on you.

I like entropic plystyle. Curses, damage over time, life steal based attacks & spells, lotsa minions or demons, etc.

There are a few classes that might fit the bill.

If you like DOTs, then you would like a magicka-based Dragon Knight. They are the king of DOTs. Everything in their kit is a DOT, even their spammable damage ability - Lava Whip. This playstyle lends itself to being a bit of glass cannon. However, they put up some of the best numbers in compettive play (not that you want to play competively).

As for minions, Warden will have the lionshare of those, but they are nature oriented. They also have a few DOTs. Sorcerers only have two, but they are daedric in origin. Sorcerers also have a couple of DOTs as well as a Curse (Haunting Curse) in their arsenal, but nowhere near the amount that a magicka DK has.

    Good luck!

    Hi Patriach,

Thanks for the kind words and help provided in your response.
I took the libery of trying to build my first dot based class, a "tanky Sorceror" who focuses on damage over time spells whilst being able to absorb damage.

I'm quite sure that this is relatively a rough sketch of where i wanna get but i think for a first attempt, it's decent.
Please do help let me know of your feedback and areas in whcih this can be improved.

I think you have a great start to being a tanky Sorcerer. As you progress, there wil be skills that you should try that might help you in later stages of the game. One small problem is the Clannfear. That sucker is amazing for tanking and healing. However, it must be on both your bars, otherwise it will desummon the moment you switch to the bar where you don't have it slotted. This one weakness of having daedric summons. It reduces the amount of skill slots available.

What type of content are yo interested in playing? PvE or PvP? Groups or solo?

Thanks for letting me know about this. Didn't realize that summon pet needs to be on the bar to remain active... geez!
This means i need to re-work the positioning.

I'm looking more towards PVP, though a hybrid for some PVE content would be good as well. Mostly solo, but would be open to group content if the playerbase in ESO is more mature (not like the 12-18 year olds in WoW).

Okay, so you want to mainly PvP as a solo tanky sorcerer. Your build definitely has the "tanky" down. The only problem I can see is that, in PvP, you are going to have to kill some people (especially if solo). Contrast this with PvE group content. All you do there is tank the boss so your allies can burn them down. In PvP, however, you can't "tank" other players like you can in PvE. Therefore, a tank's role in group PvP is to distract certain opponents so your group members are more survivable. But, you still need to contribute damage and kill. More so, if you are solo, you certainly need to kill; otherwise, you're just running around taking hits but not bringing enemy players down.

Okay, you know all this, so why do I bring it up? Here are some issues:

    1) You don't have adequate damage dealing abilities to solo in Cyrodiil. There isn't one single spammable damage ability. What will you use to kill people?

    2) You have a destruction staff ability (elemental drain) and a restoration staff ability (quick siphon) on the same bar. If it were me, I'd drop quick siphon (my healer doesn't eve use this skill) and replace it with Crushing Shock (morph of Force Shock). Also, unless you really love the soul trap spell, I'd replac that with something else. Maybe your clannfear can be here as well since it needs to be double slotted. Soul gems are dime a dozen. Very easy to come by.

    3) I failed to mention this before (I guess I overlooked it before) but if you are going to run Bound Aegis, you have to double slot that skill as well. Sorcerers are among the most powerful classes in the game, hands down, right now. But, the curse is that many skills (particulary pets) have to be double slotted, which reduced the number of abilities we can use.

I'm sure you'll whip up a great build. Sorc tanks are not an easy class to pull off in PvE let alone PvP, but if you do, you'll have something very unique.

@Warlocksg Having played WOW, I can say that the ESO community is more mature. Maybe not that much more mature...but still. We have far less "squeakers." lol

Hey, Bonelord. Good to hear from you. Now worries about the guild. As you know, it's a very casual guild, so people will come and go as real life directs. As for Deltia, did you see his latest video? He has a lot of personal demons to fight, and I am happy that he maintains the right priorities of family over gaming. He'll be back; I am sure of it.

As for me, yep, I am still playing. I took a month-long hiatus while dealing with my wife's health issue. By hiatus, I mean logging in for an hour or so once a week. But, I am fully back in action. Morrowind is absolutely stunning. The art, the dialog, the quests, the new trial - all of it has been amazingly well done. The only thing I don't like is the color of the Telvanni mushroom towers, but that's really not a big deal. All-in-all, I have been enjoying it.
