I was kind of hoping I could give it to the House of Orsimer Glories but nope. I'm not sure what to do with it tbh

My game is installing now, and I'm pretty excited.

My main game plan is to begin as a Breton Nightblade (I'm thinkin' Mages' Guild) who uses Shadow and Siphoning, but I kind of have no idea if this is really viable in the long run. Would this work? What crafts/weapons/armors would you recommend?

Well, that depends. Will your primary attribute be magicka or stamina (in this game, hybrids don't work out very well in the long run)? Are you mainly wanting to play PvE, PvP, or both? What will be your playstyle? NB is a very versatile class. Will you be a silent killer from stealth like my NB (who mainly does PvP) or will you be more of a stand-up fighter who relies on speed and accuracy?

As for weapons and skills, you should shoot for leveling all three NB skill lines equally as there are skills in each line that are useful for a NB. My NB, whose playstyle I described above, has leveled all three NB skill lines, the dual wield line, some of 2H (for one important skill), and is now working on leveling the bow.

If you can raise enough money to purchase armor and weapons (from the open trader market or from friends who can craft what you need), then you could skip everything except alchemy and provisioning (which, btw, are the fastest leveling skills in the game - and super helpful). If not, then start researching armor and weapon traits. There are plenty og skill points in the game to get you where you want to be no matter how many crafts you take.

The type of armor will also depend on how you play.

Knowing me, definitely PvE. I tend not to have a lot of patience for PvP competitiveness, and my connection is kind of potato quality. I was thinking pretty hard about magicka as the primary skill with maybe just the ability to dive into stealth for roleplay reasons.

Good to know! I was thinking hard about playing with staves, particularly Restoration staves, in order to make a character who is kind of a hard-to-kill siphon mage.

My thought was to go for either light or medium armor depending on how I felt about them when playing them, and I'd really kind of like to limit myself to self-made or quest-acquired gear for the most part in order to have a reason to explore Tamriel. I've heard good things about Provisioning and Alchemy, plus it could pay off to learn Clothing, Enchanting, and Woodworking (I'm mostly interested in the thought of Staves for the character, and perhaps just trying out bows for funsies).

Thanks for the information! Yes, a magicka NB is very fun to play and can be competitive in PvE. Plus, if you plan on doing the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild queslines, the cloaking ability (which costs magicka) is very helpful.

I suggest using mainly light armor. In my opinion, LA has the best passives in the game, plus you'll get access to the shield, Harness Magicka. The shield not only protects you from a portion of the damage received, but you will also absorb a portion of any magicka attacks. With that said, I'd suggest wearing at least 5L/2M or, if you want to level all armor types to see what fits you best, 5L/1M/1H.

As for weapons, I'd ditch the bow. Bow damage is mainly stamina-based, meaning that the strength of your attacks will be based on not only the weapon damage value, but also your total stamina pool. Since you will be a magicka character, you bow will be hitting like a wet noodle. Unfortunatey, this is why hybrid builds don't fare very well in ESO. Instead, focus on leveling a destruction staff and a restoration staff (note that NB's have a number of abilities that will heal as well). Destruction staves have some pretty awesome ranged and damage-over-time abilities. The NB skill, concealed weapon (morph of Veiled Strike) is one of the best spammable melee-range damage skills in the game. Here's some skills to focus on:

    NB skills:

    1. Concealed Weapon - Spammable close rage attack (morph of Veiled Strike)

    2. Sap Essence - heal (morph of Drain Power)

    3. Lotus Fan - gap closer (Morph of Teleport Sstrike)

    4. Aspect of Terror - crowd control (morph of fear)

    5. Shadowy Disguise - Cloak (morph of Shadow Cloak)

Destruction skills (if you plan on using it) - all skills and passives are worthwhile

Restoration staff: all skills and passive are useful

As for armor, try to find/buy armor that is part of a "set". These sets will confer certain bonuses that are very helpful.

BTW, what server/platform are you on?

I actually haven't begun yet. The game only just now finished installing, and I actually just got off of work and about to go grab dinner. >.>

I was honestly thinking about doing a search to find a good RP server and then trying with that, providing it wasn't also dead in terms of PvE.

There are only two servers: NA and EU (nothing RP-specific). Although I am not a part of any, I know that there are a few RP guilds out there in each alliance. Also, as soon as One Tamriel drops, I will be launching an official Tamriel Vault guild on PC, PS4, and X1. We'd love to have you join, so be on the lookout.

Gotcha. I'm on US server and now around level 8-9 with the Nightblade. Your advice has definitely come in handy, though I'm focusing mostly on the Restoration staff weapon for now and will rotate the Destruction Staff in more when I unlock my second bar. Provisioning and Enchanting are proving to be the easiest crafts to level so far, but I really would like to have some backup potions and poisons. Is there a good way to level Alchemy?

Alchemy and Provisioning are the fastest leveling skill once you have the materials. Alchemy will level based on the quality of water you use. The higher quality the faster it will level. Just farm for reagents and water, and you'll be good to go. It may help if you place a skill point in Keen Eye, which is a passive that causes alchemy reagents and water to glow. It makes them much easier to see especially at night.

ESO establishes firm connections between Meridia, The Fighter's Guild and The Dawn Guard through the skill tree of the Fighter's Guild faction. That Merid is an enemy of Molag Bal is established both quests and in lore. Her sphere of life is directly opposed to Molag's sphere of unlife and that gets explored a fair bit.

However, is there anything explaining why there are those connections between the guild, The lady of Light and the Dawn Guard? Apart from the fact it makes thematic sense, is there anything to explain why in 2E 500 ish the Fighter's Guild became synonymous with Merid and the Dawn Guard?
