The second is a relatively new character whom I've really enjoyed playing, a Bosmer stamina Nightblade ganker, but I may rework her into a stamina Necromancer this spring, after the new ESO chapter drops. Laeriel Underbrush, sneaky assassin and hunter.

Not sure I've met Miss Underbrush. I'd think I'd remember, she's a horny little thing. And hairy, too, by the sounds of it xD

Her backstory may be pending but surely you've noticed or settled upon parts of her personality while playing her? Even if you haven't I wouldn't say no to hearing more about her when you've pinned it all down.

I would say inquisitive, so far we've been investigating and exploring a lot, though can be suspicious depending on who is offering a task. Definitely more clued up on what is happening in the world and history than Auguris (or will be when I get the current scenario figured lol)

Yes, I too have characters who...you know...exist. I really haven't designed a character yet to be honest, or at least not characters with actual backstories or anything. I'm aiming to hit Level 50 with one of my current characters (Level 23 Bosmer DK and Level 22 Orcish Warden) before delving into a proper character just so I can get used to the game before running a proper character.

My aim is probably going to be some sort of Templar/DK though, but that's as far as I'm at right now for a proper character.

I think it just comes with time. Much like the first playthrough of a traditional TES game, I found myself just learning the setting and experiencing the stories before really getting into the whole character backstory thing. Now I've got a few, starting off with Sir Paws the Second:

This was the first character I made on PC NA during 2018's first free-to-play weekend. I was using my laptop and, because the download took so long, I rushed through character creation section. There just wasn't any point with such low resolution to adjust many details. Since then he's been my main - my go-to character for new content and crafting. I had planned to change his name to something more real, but ended up making a backstory to explain why he was "Sir Paws." Here's the character's version of how that happened:

"Sir Paws the Second... Who was Sir Paws the First, then?" I asked as we shared a moon sugar hookah in his cabin aboard The Spadetail.

"This one doesn't think there was a First. Khajiit never asked. He just took the name given to him as a young walker, fresh out of the temple."

"Sounds like a story. Care to share?"

"Ah, it's more exciting to hear the tale told and embellished by the locals of Riverhold but, in brief, this one fought a dark knight - some say a dro-m'athra spririt - as the sun set over the mesa. Khajiit remembers the warm rocks under his paws, almost a fiery red in the fading light of Magrus, and the first stars winking into existence overhead, heralding Jone and Jode. The duel lasted all night, but the bright moons favoured this one. As Khajiit's sword swept the head from his opponent's shoulders, this one collapsed from exhaustion and many wounds. Khajiit awakened several days later, by which time the walkers of the small village near Riverhold had come to call him Sir Paws due to his Akaviri armour and sword."

I heard the distant cries of gulls, followed by calls from above to stow the sails. We were to sleep on dry land that night, on a small island about half a day's sailing from Sunhold. I asked the Khajiit, "so where did 'the second' come from?"

"Maybe this one wasn't the first to duel that dark knight of the dunes, only the first to win."

"May I ask your real name?"

The cat smiled then, before answering quietly and, it seemed, wistfully. "You may ask, but this one is Sir Paws and has been since he awoke to the kind and gentle hospitality of Tsani in that quiet, dusty town. At the Temple of the Two Moons we're taught to leave our vanity at the door. This one's birth-name belongs to he who didn't learn that lesson. Khajiit will speak no more of this."

That's a nice story Phil. Think you went with the right option just leaving him as Sir Paws the Second. Sadly I tried to run with Deebs and that was already taken so I stopped trying names like that, instead I've spent 30+ minutes (overall) trying to find fitting lore-friendly names for all my characters :P

I did notice that you have a variety of Dragonknights there, is that a coincidence or are we similar in our desire to constantly play Dragonknights :)

Thanks Deebs :) Normally I'm the same and spend ages naming a character - it's just this one Khajiit out of every character I've ever had who was named in a hurry and, against all odds, I stuck with. I wanted to use a name change token on him recently but just couldn't find an alternative.

Yep to Dragonknights. I don't know why but they clicked with me. Templars and Wardens are my next two favourites, but I just enjoy DKs - probably, now I think on it, because of the Battle Roar passive from Earthen Heart. I do run into sustain issues at times, and love that instant regain of resources when activating any ulti. Not to mention the lore behind the class and how they feel to play which are both good enough reasons to love the Dragonknights on their own :D

So how about you? Has your DK inspired a stronger backstory than your Orc Warden?

I got really hooked on the idea of combining Onslaught (the Two-Handed Ultimate morph that refunds your Ultimate if you get a kill with the ability) and Battle Roar because it could be a really nice PvE restoration combo. Running Dragonknight Standard at the moment since it fit a bit better than the other two, but I messed up and accidentally got Shifting Standard which just isn't as useful for me.

But yeah, I just really dig the combos with the class, and how good the Passives generally are. The sheer Stamina generation that a DK seems to capable of is pretty sweet.

Not yet, to be honest I still just haven't taken the time to construct anything decent, my Imperial Dragonknight (Magicka and Shield) is probably a bit more defined because I've at least got a vague character set out for him. Very vague, not really worth explaining purely because it could change at any moment. The only core is that I'm trying to set him up as a bit of a Scholar, which is why he's in Vvardenfell at all (and ties in with most of the quests rather nicely, or at least the Vivec and Temple Library questlines). Not sure where to go with there, and to be honest a bit part of that is just going to develop as I play more of Morrowind (The DLC).

I'm guessing the inquisitiveness is bleeding over from you and it being your first playthrough. So she's at least a bit more educated then Auguris (who is your Skyrim character?) or might have an interest in history and the world at large?

Speaking of naming, Korysha is just one of the Altmer names listed on UESP with the "i" swapped out for a "y". I even did the same for Vallysha so that they'd have the same naming sense as a little bit of added flavour to their backstories. One of my characters is an Imp called Xavacia which is parts of two Imp names mashed together in a way that sounds passable.

That's a strong start and a decent angle, I reckon! The Blades had there archivists and scholars like Esbern, stands to reason that the Dragonguard would have their own scholars and that knowledge could have been passed onto some among the Dragonknights. I'm thinking the Telvanni Magister personality would suit him :) Plus, being a scholar is a great excuse to take up any quest or go to a strange land.

I like Xavacia as a name, it sounds very floral.. It conjures images of olive skin on a warm evening and bright, green eyes.

I'm trying to remember how and why I named my Altmer Templar Hadlanter. I think it started out as a character I created for a blog about werewolves I once did, and I think I wanted something miltary sounding so that it could be reduced to Hadley and sound a bit like a squaddie.

Whatever and why, he ended becoming a magicka templar and priest of Stendarr. ESO Summerset gives us a few clues as to the priesthood on the Isles, and we get the sense they are quite a severe or ascetic order. I wanted to make him a bit warmer so I wove his story into the background of another character's. At some point, Hadlanter wanted to see how his God was venerated in other lands and journeyed to Skyrim. There he met a ranger and Warden, a martial priestess of Kyne. Despite himself he fell in love with her, although they only ever became friends. She promised to visit him on Summerset, but on the journey there her ship was wrecked by slavers (which is the start of her story in the Morrowind chapter).

Worried sick at the delay, Hadley joined the Psijic Order to learn their scrying and temporal magic so that he could discover her location, but he found no trace of her on Tamriel (by then she was in Coldharbour). His adventure became one of finding his lost love.

I like it as well which is why I ended up using it, I'd sat there for the 30 minutes that DB mentioned just mashing names together and testing how they sounded when I said them aloud before deciding on it.

Auguris is certainly educated, but seems to have a complete block on certain historical events, he will find Skyrim hard going, but maybe enlightening. He is my lead character in The Imperial Auditor.

I have a feeling some of the family prejudices will come from the events in this era, I can feel Dorcas-Anya bristling at the treatment of the newcomers to Summerset, but after wandering around for a while and seeing the player characters, I can understand the Altmer's problem with them lol ;-)
