Discussion: Mage Grimoire (Challenge?)

I just thought of a RP "challenge?" thingy.

So you play a mage, and take every Magic school, so everyone could specialise in what they like. Some may want heavy illusion useage others more Destruction focus but you still have the utility from turn undead or fleshspells.

Now here's the kicker, you can learn all the spells you want but every morning you can only Favorite 5 spells and you can ONLY use these 5 spells for the day until you sleep and the sun rises again.

See the Favorites menu as the Wizards memory so to say.

So now you have to think about what spells you take on what mission.

Going on a mission in a Catacomb? better memorise that Sunfire/Turn undead, infiltrating somewhere? bring Muffle.

I call it The Grimoire Wizard :D you can get Ulfrs empty book as youre Grimoire.

This reminds me of Alastor's build The Vancian Wizard, which is another take on this kind of concept where all his spells are combinations of the various daily powers.

I'm curious how well this would pair with Ordinator's Alteration perks, specifically the Vancian line of perks which limits the number of spells you can cast per day. Well shit... now I want to play Skyrim again.

Yeah i was inspired by Alastor's build and because my Favorite are always so full. And i like to plan ahead for Missions ^^

I'd love to do an Ordinator version of the Vancian Wizard, would be bloody amazing. But yeah this is something I've always enjoyed the idea of trying, I had a character a while back that was trying to mimic the idea of a D&D Wizard right down to having a set number of spells per day (so not only could you only memorize a certain number of spells,  but you could only cast them a set number of times). It ended up being a pain in the ass to create and plan, never even got around to playing it, but something like this would definitely be possible, and rather fun.

As a massive fan of Alastor's Vancian Wizard (that Goldy kindly linked) this idea really appeals to me. What are the RP ramifications in regard to other spell casters? Is there hostility between a wizard such as this and a typical spellcaster? Or maybe they're more of a 'chosen one' kinda thing?

I played mine as an Arrogant High Elf who mocks other mages since his mwthod is soooo much better. he looked down on people  figuratively and literally :D

This is a good Idea! Although I'm not really that into robes and magic, I think the general principle translates into divine and priestly magic well enough to get me thinking.

After several months of not touching Skyrim I have decided to start a new playthrough combining this idea and the Vancian Alteration perks from Ordinator. So far at level 1 I have all of 5 spells so my choice each morning is looking to be quite easy for the moment.

Screw it, I'll give 'The Vancian Cleric' a shot for this, see how it turns out. So it's just a straight '5 spells' for the entire game, no increase at certain milestones or anything like that? Cool, I'm down, if my Xbox will participate with me :D
