The amazing thing about Skyrim is how many options there are to roleplay, and because of that everyone roleplays for a different reason. To make sure ZonnoSpark is taking the Roleplay Group in the direction that suits everyone, we want YOU to tell us why you do everything you can to make Skyrim as immersive and your characters as real as possible, so we can cater to everyone's style of Roleplay.

For me roleplaying is what keeps me interested in a character.  I need a story and motivation to keep me going for any length of time without it I quickly lose interest.  That's the beuty of Skyrim your a blank slate at the beginning and the player can fill that in however they want, it greatly increases the replayability of the game when you start roleplaying characters instead of checking off lists.  This is something other games have failed at, and is what makes Skyrim still relevant even to this day.

I roleplay so that all the roleplaying I've already done hasn't been for nothing. I roleplay... because I must." :p

RP lets me see the world and experience Skyrim in a new way each time depending on what my current inspirations are. It lets me immerse and "live another life in another world" for a few hours and fuels my creativity, such as it is. Because Skyrim has a huge range of character focusses, from being a Nord warrior rising through the Companions to rolling with a Telvanni wizard and soaking up the College of Winterhold, each playthrough can offer a unique perspective and create lasting memories on a fairly deep level.

Special Ediion only enhances this as the mods available can further increase that character connection and provide something truly new to an old game. The options are really becoming so many and varied that it is hard not to experience something new each time. And, strangely, it has been how I have seen the world for such a long time that it is how I tend to relate to people. I am not really a people person and struggle with small talk, but tell me you like knights and we'll chat for hours.

So what I'm hearing is RP gives you ways to get immersed in your characters and the world as a whole? So would you guys like to see some more character-related content in the future, more ideas for how to get immersed etc, or am I reading it all wrong?

I'm an escapist, and Skyrim is a fantasy game. So for me, RP is less about feeling like I'm in a real world (I don't mind if I have 20 billion different things in my small pack, rarely sleep, and eat even less). Instead, I enjoy getting wrapped up in the stories behind each new character I play. It wasn't always this way, and about a year or so after playing it looked like I was done with the game. But then I ran across this site and the concept of RP.

It's a whole new game every time I RP. When I played Oblivion I basically ran the three basic character types (warrior, thief, mage), and was pretty much finished. Skyrim was looking the same for me till I stumbled across Ponty's Skystrider (and ultimately this site). Not only did I see more types of builds, but each of them were different characters with different agendas. Suddenly, it didn't matter that I had already played as a thief. One mage was very different from another, and every warrior had a different reason for fighting.

I can't tell you how many builds I've played since joining this site, but I'm nowhere close to being finished with Skyrim (and I don't even have the DLC :D).

For me, there is two very different reasons. First is, like everyone, escape the real world in a character I wish to be. Second is, to create an experience of playing an existing character from other games, shows, and books.

I roleplay because Skyrim gives me the option to play a character exactly the way I want and imagine them. I love creating new characters, giving them a backstory and a personality, create them from my mind to visual characters. Sometimes a character just stays in my mind for days and I think about its backstory while on the train or just sitting infront of the tv. But once I come up with a backstory I won't ever let that character go, because it has become unique and exciting to develop it further and play/write its adventures and experiences.

Sometimes coming up with a backstory and developing is more interesting than actually playing it, because even Skyrim has its limitations.

I totally agree with the second part. I love recreating existing characters. At the moment I'm roleplaying this character  from a game called Sword Coast Legends. I have never played that game and eventhough the character is only a side character I found it interesting enough to bring that personality to Skyrim and adjust the lore/backstory until it became an original Skyrim character.

Character development seems like the resounding result here (which seems pretty obvious, now I think about it). Thank you, everyone, ZonnoSpark will definitely be using this as a reference for the future.

I suppose I roleplay because of my interest in the character and the meanings behind every action. Find 5 holy knights that slay the undead and ask them why they do it and you'll get 7 different answers. At least, that's the ideal to strive for. The one that keeps me in it I guess. Hell, roleplay gave way to my interest in writing. They both start with characters and a story to tell. Only difference is that one is told while the other is experienced. And of course, the ability to undertake certain actions and express emotions differs differs too, but they both strike at that fundamental appeal of interesting characters doing interesting things. Boiled down to its barest form, that's it.

This is one of the biggest draws to RP for me as well. And it's something ZonnoSpark tried to build on with the A-Z, a way to inspire people to think of different ways to start a generic character, and it's definitely something we'll try and include more.
