Discussion: Walking, Running, Sneaking, Jumping

So, I just caught myself sprinting all the way up to High Hrothgar. 7000 steps. Like a marathon runner. Despite heavy armor and a thick fur cloak. Not very realistically.

Do you pay attention at your movement speed while exploring or do you just sprint all the time until almost out of stamina? Do you have mods to make walking faster or running more realistically. When do you walk, run, sneak or jump (besides the obvious moments...) ?

Damn, I'm guilty of just running everywhere. If it saves me 5 minutes over the course of an hour then damn it I'm going to save those minutes. I am actually playing with a mod right now that would punish that (draining stamina means damage is lowered, hits are slower and I can't Power Attack) so that might change that, but I usually am a Sprinter who only drops into stealth mode whenever I see a Bandit Camp, go into a cave or do anything like that.

I rarely sneak, jog pretty much everywhere, and often sprint through areas I've been through many times. Oh, and if I have a jump button, I jump on, over, and around everything. It's just how it goes. Honestly, I've never paid much mind to the realism of my movement speed. That said, I would likely enjoy a mod that drained stamina for sprinting, attacking, and jumping. Just don't know that there is one for PS4 yet.

"Horses. All day long. Do you have any idea how dull horses are?"

I like to ride things :P

Actually, Ineed taxes you for running everywhere so that you'll get fatigued quicker and need to sleep sooner. So horses become that bit more useful with that mod. Is that off-topic? I do slow down and walk, but also my character is born under the Steed. She is always on the move so it fits her RP to be a little highly strung. Seven-Thousand steps are an easy challenge to this Queen of the Mountain. Yet she has her relaxing moments thanks to Complete Camping and Frostfall.

Well at least now I'm reassured that I'm not the only sprinter here. I've tried everything to make we stop running, even making myself overencumbered so I'm forced to walk everywhere, but it's so SLOW!

Phil brings up an interesting point (first time for everything :P), Standing Stones could justify or even define how a character moves, depending on which one you chose. The Shadow would be sneaking perpetually, the Steed would at least be able to justify jogging, sprinting sometimes, the Lord may walk proudly and take his time getting places (or use a horse, which is the opposite but achieves the same RP effect). Yes, very interesting, I wonder what else would effect movement speed...

To be honest after posting the discussion I didn't expect any comments at all because I thought the discussion was stupid hahaha But you have proven me wrong

I guess most people don't pay attention to the movement speed and so am I. Though, I use a mod to have realistic human speeds.

Wow, I never expected to link movement speed with a standing stone in a RP sense. Nice call!

Good calls, too. Hmm... I could think about no sprinting before the heavy armor Conditioning perk or light armor Unhindered perk. Maybe the age of the character could also play a role. An elder character, like a seasoned warrior, might not be able to sprint from Riften to Markarth.

When I picked up one of my current playthroughs, and wanted to go through Skyrim SE without mods for achievements for a couple of runs, one of my choices for a character was a Mage/Shaman type who is as haunted by his otherworldly allies as he is aided by them, leaving him always freezing, feverish, and physically weak. I slapped the Necromancer Amulet on that bugger, letting him get one full sprint in before his stamina would take forever to refill. He mainly travels on horseback when he can, but will eventually start to sustain himself with himself own magic, a testament to him becoming even more otherworldly.

    A. That's a bloody brilliant concept for a character, and the roleplay sounds great as well. Have you considered writing a profile or a guide on this? I for one would be interested to see how you implemented such a cool idea into the game.

    B. Did you find yourself running in one burst, or saving your sprint for emergencies? Your character sounds pretty squishy to me, so not being able to run away from things could be a little bit of a problem. Regardless, the justification is awesome.

    A. I've thrown together a perk sheet I'm slowly working through on him which includes my eventual gear choices (though they're subject to change if I get them and don't like the aesthetic). The overall effect I'm going for is a person whose magics and summons are more otherworldly than 'holy' like a cleric's, and I thought the heavy, clunky boots and gloves that mirror the appearance of a Draugr's helped give the feel that he wasn't so far off from the dead he looked to put to rest. The bits I LIKED about most of my gear selections come from the torment surrounding so many of them. Ahzidal's Boots and Gloves would have been permeated by the fresh ghosts of dead miners, and the Necromancer Amulet was present when multiple young women were murdered horribly. The Archmage's robes would be filled with the regrets of their former wearer, which we see in Labrynthian. Everything but the mask seems...Very fitting. Haven't gotten the mask yet to see how it'll look in the end.

I have not considered tossing together a guide about him to put on the site. Most of what's in the perk sheet are my own notes. I'll consider it now, though?

    B. Normally I save the sprint for emergencies and keep a horse or Arvak around for crossing greater distances. Become Ethereal is also a great tool for crossing big expanses, since it allows you to sprint without costing Stamina. Become Ethereal, Frost Breath, Marked for Death, Summon Durnehviir, Slow Time, and Soul Tear get a lot of use when enemies are up close, but my standby is to raise a nearby dead body or summon a frost atronach, then mash Become Ethereal and hoof it to a safe position as a wraith.

The key to being squish is to give enemies targets other than yourself, then either taking them out of the fight or blasting them down before they have a chance to hurt you. In later levels, this guy will have so much magicka at his disposal that encasing a few things in ash to narrow the number of targets in a firefight will hardly be felt. There's a reason I decided to focus on Frost damage aside from the theme: Frost damage is often heavily resisted, so there are going to be a lot of times where the build will be resisted and have to work twice as hard to kill things.

Just had a quick gander at your link and it doesn't disappoint - it's similar enough to a necromancer in terms of gameplay for the concept to work, but thematically they're miles apart and shoulder-to-shoulder.

This bit I especially like, it's such a simple point but defines the whole build. For Nahkriin, it's a popular theory (or it could be established lore, I'm not too sure) that the undead that guard Dragon Priests are drained by the Dragon Priests to gather and maintain power. So Nahkriin could be a powerful conduit to the spirits, which inturn provide the wearer with powerful magic (the enchantments).

Obligitary question: Have you considered joining in on the RP/Workshop Event with this guy?, a Redguard or Dunmer character would fit perfectly as they oppose necromancy. Of course, you'll have to talk about it with your team, but I'm retty sure they'd pick this.
