Hey everyone, ZonnoSpark here, with the second host pick of

    'The A-Z of Backstories'.

This post is dedicated to our member Ronny Philange with his backstory for a good Thief. Take a look at his backstory here:

Theif was born in Cyrodil. He lived in great comfort and wealth with his parents. His father was an honoured and decorated soldier, his mother ran a general goods store. However, all this was soon turned upside down when bandits attacked the village. Theif and his mother attempted to escape while the father stayed to defend against the attacking bandits. In the fray, Theif and his mother were separated, so Theif hid in a barral until the attack was over. By some miracle, he was not discovered and when the sounds of fighting and pillaging had stopped he rose out of the barrel. Both his parents had been killed, his house ransacked and burnt down. With nowhere else to go, the newly orphaned Theif turned to the streets.
After only a week or so of homelessness, the theif was lucky enough to find a group of homeless men and women, who took him in. His situation was no better, but at least he was no longer alone. However, starvation was still a serious threat that loomed over him, and he began to steal small amounts of bread from the market. He was caught occasionally, but he was always quicker than the guard or shopkeeper chasing him down. As he stole more often, he started to become quite proficient at the trade, able to steal larger items such as jackets and even shoes on occasion. The theif always shared his goods with the other homless people, whom he had started to think of as family, and before long the entire group had stopped looking like homeless outcasts and nstead looked like respectable working class men and women. After a while they found they had food and clothes to spare, which they would give to other people living in poverty. All was going excellently. However, the theif's luck was running out. His bounty was increasing, and guards became more vigilant, spotting almost every time he ventured into the market. He kew it was time to move on, so he said goodbye and set off for the nearest Province: Skyrim.

What inspired Ronny to write his backstory?

I've always loved writing stories, especially fantasies! Essentially I took the character I was playing at the time and picked him apart. "Why does he steal? No, it's not because that's how I like to play, it's because it's what he's good at and is afraid of being poor. Why is he afraid of being poor? Because he knows how difficult it is, he used to be very poor. Why did he come to skyrim? No, it's not because the game plot requires him to be there. It's because he's escaping the law." The list goes on!!

    Zonnon's thoughts:

'Ronny came out the gate swinging with his first contribution to the A-Z, the Good Thief. This really is the great rags to riches story we all know and love, with the bounty and his forced abandonment of his friend doing just enough to set a darker theme to the lovable bandit. Good job, Ronny, and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you (hint hint :P).'

    AllSpark's thoughts:

'The Good Thief backstory sets the right mood for any thief type character. The character is not just a thief for the sake of stealing but has a motivation, which gives him some depths and charm. Having lost his parents and finding a new family on the streets puts him in a more relatable light. As the thief moves on to Skyrim, the reader might as well hope that he finds happiness and a brighter future. Well done, Ronny, it might be your first contribution but hopefully not your last.'

We hope you enjoyed Ronny's backstory for the second host recommendation and hope to read some more interesting backstories.

    Your hosts,
    ZonnoSpark
