Hey everyone, ZonnoSpark here, and we are proud to present you the first host pick of

    The A-Z of Backstories‘.

The first feature is our member Blooded with his backstory for an evil Blood Mage which is from his build 'The Blood Stag'. Read his backstory here:

‚I have studied this particularly interesting wildman I encountered during my research. He is reminiscent of the Forsworn; savage, unsophisticated, and lives in the wilderness. Yet, he is different in many ways. His intelligence seems far more base than any Forsworn, he is far more animalistic and, if I may say, more vile, and he travels alone, seeming to have no affililiation with the group. Not to mention the fact he roams around naked save for a headdress quite similar to those of the Forsworn. I have no ideas on what the significane of the headdress may be.

It seems he worships Hircine, Daedric Lord of the Hunt and Kyne of the Nordic Pantheon, making frequent sacrifices to them for power. I have actaully seen him consorting with this Daedra in the woods. He appears also to be cannibalistic and has a certain knowledge of blood magicks, though I do not know if these powers come from cannibalization or his worship. He seems to be able to eat raw meat without becoming sick as a normal man would. He survives by hunting, and eating wild vegetation. He is easily startled by people in the wilderness and on the roads, most likely seeing them as a threat. I have exercised extreme caution and kept my distance throughout my observations due to his propensity to attack these people he comes across. I have no wish to be cannibalized.

I've asked all about in the holds for any information from those who have any to offer. Many people had seen him, some had even been attacked by him, but only two people claimed to have any knowledge about his past and where he came from. One was an elderly Nord woman in Markarth, the other a middle-aged Dunmer man in Falkreath. The woman claimed she knew the man's parents, who are long deceased. She said the hailed from Markarth. After several children they had had fallen ill and died in their first months, they had a boy who was hearty and lived for six months with them until they got in a bad way with the Forsworn due to circimstances she would not reveal. They were forced to give up the boy to pay their debt. She said she did not know the man's name. The Dunmer's information shall not be written in this book as he wished not to be named nor for his words to be recorded. Though, it is sufficient to say I do not believe his information was much at all.

I can only assume, due to his current lack of affiliation with the Forsworn, that he either managed to escape from them, or they no longer had any purpose for him and threw him out, where he raised himself in the wilds. Or perhaps his separation is much more recent. I believe that his time spent with the Forsworn, if it was sufficiently long enough, is what caused him to become as violent as he is. It is also highly possible that these blood magicks of his were taught to him by the Forswron. Of course, these claims are unsubstantiated and my assumptions are not to be taken as truth. Only my current observations can be seen as entirely accurate.

    -Anonymous Field Researcher's Journal‘

What inspired Blooded to write his story?

'I was just thinking that the character wasn't intelligent enough to really tell a story about himself and where he came from, so I knew I had to think outside the box for a backstory, I finally came up with the idea of going through the point of view of someone studying him and his peculiar behavior and lifestyle.'

Here’s what Zonnnon has to say about Blooded’s backstory:

'Blooded has shown his story crafting prowess in the short time the A-Z has been around, but no story stands out as much as his Evil Blood Mage. Even the way it is written, a witnesses account of the person, is original, and inspires many thoughts regarding the character without explicitly saying them, which has been shown to be as effective, if not more so, than directly stating them.
As such, Blooded has opened up a doorway into more creative and interesting methods to write backstories, which I'm sure will be reflected in the group soon. Good job, Blooded, we hope to see more from you!'

And here’s what AllSpark has to say about Blooded’s backstory:

'Since the beginning of the A-Z, Blooded has shown great interest in writing backstories and with his backstory for an evil Blood Mage he has succeeded with an interesting story that drags you right into the character. I like how the perspective is from a researcher which gives the reader a certain distance to the actual character and keeps a bit of mystery, but yet there is enough information to have a clear picture of the character. I felt like I wanted to read the next pages of the researcher‘s journal right away. Well done, Blooded!'

We hope you enjoyed Blooded’s backstory as much as we do and hope to read some more interesting backstories. We plan on doing these host picks regularly so keep on posting to the A-Z of Backstories.

    Your hosts,
    ZonnoSpark

I'm still in shock a bit, to be honest. It's awesome to be chosen, and I actually have 2 more ideas I'm toying around with right now...off to the backstory post! Thanks, ZonnoSpark!

Oh wow, just saw that this was featured on the home page. Pretty cool :) There is one minor issue, though. The link doesn't go to my build now that it's no longer in the workshop.

What a fantastic thing! Great idea for a regular feature for the RP Group. I remember I really liked Blooded's in-universe and third person introdution to The Blood Stag. Much likes for this, gentlemen :)

Thanks, Phil, giving RPers a bit more attention is always needed in my eyes, a lot of work goes into it and it goes unoticed a lot of the time, so we thought this would be a good idea. And they're the reasons we chose the story, gotta love a bit of first person story telling!
