Andromeda Trick: Shout without being Dragonborn

I found that Enai Siaion's most recent Standing Stone mod has an interesting way of allowing the player character to gaining access to the Thu'um without being Dragonborn or activating the Main Quest.

This trick will only allow access to one dragon soul, and therefore you can only unlock the first word of a single shout. By taking the Lover Stone and obtaining the reward for finding all thirteen stones, the player gains a special power called Lover's Kiss. Lover's Kiss allows you to mark a target that can be summoned at will.

To get the dragon soul, you need only mark Ulfric Stormcloak and summon him to the top of the Hall of Rumination in Blackreach and then attack him while standing with your back facing the artificial sun. His Unrelenting Force shout activates the encounter with Vulthuryol. Voila, one dragon soul for players who don't like always being the Dragonborn.

I've found that a number of shouts are useful with only one word (depending on your playstyle):

    Animal Alligence

    Aura Wisper

    Become Ethereal

Bend Will (if you want to unlock the once a day powers of All-Maker Stones on Solstheim plus I think that it staggers)

    Cyclone

    Ice Form

    Slow Time

    Throw Voice

    EDIT

Chris H. was correct about cleansing the Wind Stone with the first word of Bend Will! This means that the player can gain access to Frea and start the Skaal Questline without becoming Dragonborn! This also gives us quests like Filial Bonds.

He was also correct about meeting Krosulhah outside Nchardak. This equals two dragon souls without being Dragonborn, assuming that Miraak doesn't steal the soul from you after the battle. This opens up more possibilities. You gain access to Epistolary Acumen, so Frost Breath becomes a better option than Ice Form with Dragonborn Frost and Fire Breath benefits from Dragonborn Flame.

Beyond this, you can choose either to have two words of Bend Will (which has a huge area of effect and range, plus you can now control NPCs and animals) or choose a different shout and still have access to the All-Maker Stone powers. This could make for some interesting character builds!

Maybe I just have bad luck or maybe it is scripted to happen, but Miraak always shows up to steal Krosulhah's soul from me.

Okay, so this one is super awesome :D I could really see some interesting uses of this little mechanic being used, mostly I'm thinking a character that has Become Ethereal to be honest (because it's a Shout that can be buffed without using more words) but still, just reallllllllly.

Wait, okay so I just did some thinking, but I wonder how much of a boost you could give Become Ethereal/Slow Time with Ordinator/Imperious/Andromeda...I mean, anything that boosts spell effects, specifically alteration ones should be able to extend the duration, and if there's a decent chunk of them...Could be something to look into at some point, imagine having even 3 minute slow time.

    Thanks!

Slow Time should be doubled by 100 in Alteration, plus Wild Shrines would add more duration. There could be more, too.

Huh, interesting. I suppose Vulthuryol might be the only dragon you can fight without doing Dragon Rising technically since the encounter's triggered by the shout instead.  And actually, since you can use this to learn Bend Will and cleanse the stones without being Dovahkiin, have you checked to see if Krosulhah still appears during The Gardener of Men quest without doing Dragon Rising? Could be another soul potentially (unless Miraak trolls you) but mainly to see if they'll appear.

Also, Marked for Death could be another good one word shout, because of the stacking and permanence. Storm Call and Whirlwind Sprint could also be decent options (but if you can only have one word/shout, you probably dont want to pick Whirlwind Sprint)

I think that Krosulhah only spawns after reading the Black Book in Nchardak and learning the second word of Bend Will.

Well, you do have to read the Black Book during the quest. It would just depend on whether you have to unlock the word right there and then. It's been a while since I've played all the way through that questline.

Not that it'd even be useful if it did work, only really for having two words of Bend Will. You need all three to reach Miraak. Unless

Although just the first word of Bend Will does let you do the various Skaal Village side quests without being Dovahkiin as well.

Really? I though Frea only spawned after you start the "Dragonborn" quest which first required you to complete the "Dragon Rising" and "The Way of the Voices" quests.

If you're right, it could open up some interesting possibilities!

She does, however, IIRC it is possible to skip the "Dragonborn" quest by learning Bend Will first and cleansing the Wind Stone. Storn does have dialogue for it too, he sends you to find Frea and starts the Temple of Miraak quest.

I've done this before in a playthrough as a Dovahkiin, I was just thinking its possible to do it without starting Dragon Rising using this trick with the Andromeda mod. (P.S. is this mod available on PS4/Xbone?)

MIsha, out of curiosity, what did you do with Ulfric after you got the word?

I left him in Blackreach and paid my 40 Septim bounty in Windhelm. lol! I suppose that I could have been nice and blinked him back to his palace, but since you can't do the Civil War questline without becoming Dragonborn, I figured that he was useless to my character. If he is smart enough, he can find his own way back to Windhelm!

Come to think of it, I should just teleport all the Civil War NPCs to a holding cell somewhere underground. I'll play a diabolical wizard who captures leaders for fun...haha
