If you’re going to stay with novice level spells for a Spellblade with a smaller Magicka pool, there are some great traits in Alteration for holding a spell in one hand and a weapon in the other. Even better, there is a skill that, when chosen, reduces the Magicka cost of Novice/Apprentice spells by a full 100%.

I had a lot of fun with those particular traits when running a build that used a lot of Runes. It rendered the cost of my enhanced Destruction Runes to nothing, so I could free-cast them in open combat without having to worry about my blue bar.
