Its a strong possibility for the future, and I see no reason why it won't happen. But its still not a 100% fact that it will be commencing. Watch this space in the future for updates on the matter.

I want to participate in this... I just hope I can find the time. Either way, I'm sure there a plenty of folks here who will make something fancier than I can envision. :P On that note, would a gif be possible perhaps (particularly considering file size)? I don't know how to make them, but a simple slide show of images would be really cool, I think.

Do you mean a gif for all banner submissions on the front page?

I implied a single person making it, but that would be interesting too.

That's a really good idea you've come up with, I'll run it through with Paul and see what he thinks.  (The single person slide show of course.)

We discussed it, and as long as the size is under 200K, then there's no reason someone can't make a slideshow.

How's everyone coming along with their submissions? We ask that you post your entry here in this discussion upon completion.

Am I the only one that hates the 650 * 150 format? its very small and wide I can't seem to get any proportions correct...

650 pixels is the fixed width of the column, there's nothing that can be done about that without completely redesigning and revamping the front page in the Ning backend.

I agree that 150 pix may seem stingy for the depth, but if the Welcome Banner takes up too much screen space then it detracts from the rest of the front page contest.

Just do your best with the proportions

Yearh I just kept bumping into the same problems with the with and height having to big of a difference.
