CB Event: Songs of the North

Oh, there once was a hero named Ragnar the Red,
Who came riding to Whiterun from old Rorikstead

And the braggart did swagger and brandish his blade,
As he told of bold battles and gold he had made.

But then he went quiet, did Ragnar the Red,
    When he met the shield-maiden Matilda, who said;

"Oh, you talk and you lie and you drink all our mead,
Now I think it's high time that you lie down and bleed!"

And so then came clashing and slashing of steel,
As the brave lass Matilda charged in, full of zeal.

And the braggart named Ragnar was boastful no more-
When his ugly red head rolled around on the floor!

Just imagine me belting this out constantly (note, I'm a terrible singer, thus it's terrible automatically). Anyway, welcome one, welcome all to the first DB-Run Character Building Event. As you can no doubt tell, this Event has been declared 'Songs of the North', in other words, we're going to be basing an Event on songs. Now I'm not quite cruel enough to limit you only to in-game songs, no you can create a build based on any song that you can think of. Whether it's your favourite singer, rapper, band, cover artist, hell I'll even quickly mention Television or Anime Themes, maybe even game soundtracks or some classical music. Really if it can be considered 'music' then it's all good for this Event.

As for how you base your character off said piece of music? Well, that's pretty broad as well, you can either use the meanings or themes behind the lyrics, create a piece based around an in-game song, maybe your character's a musician who writes their own music? Anything is possible as long as you can imagine it.

Now, this Event will be working a little differently for anyone who's used to the Event Formula we've typically used here. Rather than restricting Events to just a four week time period, now they're technically open forever. That means if you want to post your Event Build at the end of the year (say October) you can do that and still use the Event Tag and Title. However, to give people a bit of incentive to post their builds in the first month, I'm going to be giving out a badge to everyone and they'll most likely get front page features of some sort. Really it's just an easier time for your build to be seen by others, as well as a fancy badge.

    Rules:

    1. All builds must be tagged with 'Event: Songs of the North' and be titled Event Build: [Insert Name Here]

    2. Builds can be posted at any time, but any build posted by the 31st of March will earn the builder the Northern-Songs Badge [Insert Pokemon Reference]

    3. Builders will still need to follow all other Character Building Rules.

    4. You don't have to mention your build here, you can work in it in secret and just post at the end of the month. Or you can mention which song your basing your build on, and even your build's name if you've thought about it. If you are going to spill the beans and let us know the song, please do provide a link and the artist's name just so it's easier for me to link.

Now before I jump into the participants, I want to offer something to anyone new to building (or really anyone that wants to improve their builds). Over this event, I'd like to help people jump into the Event, so if anyone does need the help, feel free to reach out and I'll help out as much, or as little as you'd like. I'm fine with either just chatting to job some thoughts, or work a full on collab with you (though I won't be able to play for each).

If any other advanced builders would like to offer the same, just let me know and I'll add your name in here as well.

Now that's enough rambling from me. GO forth and join in for SONGS OF THE NORTH!

I know, I know. First in and all, but I wanted to get my thoughts down on paper first. Won't go any further before saying, hope to see some people dropping in soon :D

So yeah, I've got two build ideas for this Event, and I'm not entirely sure which one I'll end up finishing (or if I'll have the time to post both). The first is a really interesting one that combines Alchemy, Two-Handed, Illusion and Lockpicking (possibly) with Ordinator, Imperious, Apocalypse, etc. Based on one of my favourite songs from Bruce Springsteen's Wrecking Ball album.

Uh, and the second one. Well, it'll be a build based on Ciri from Witcher 3. Hopefully will mean some crazy teleporting, massive damage with swords and just being badass in every way possible. Probably going One-Handed, Light Armour (because I'm about 99.999999% sure that I'll be able to grab a mod that adds Ciri's Clothes to the game.), maybe Alteration and...Restoration? Not sure yet entirely, haven't planned it out because it's a latter plan.

Alright then, I'll do two builds at the least, maybe four as this is ME we're talking about . For my first two sign me up for Lion from The North by Sabaton https://youtu.be/QLt0lerdgKs and Jingo Jungle by Myth and Roid https://youtu.be/C7cPUez_7v8

I'm in! I have seen the badge. It looks the badger's bulges, and I want, want, want :D

Will do all I can to get a build out before the badge-cut off of March 31st. Working title will be "Stormcrowned" inspired by Vivaldi's Four Seasons, mostly the Storm presto section of Summer.

I'm out of my depth with Springsteen. Radio tends to play his stuff on Classic Gold (like classic soft rock) late at night while at work. Office is locked because they know I'll change it. Makes me just wanna break the door down, because jeez! Time and a place, you know? 01:00 at work is neither :p

Looking forward to both, Deebs, especially Ciri. For reasons.

Chuck me in with Passion Pit's Take a Walk! Coincedentally also the music Bethesda chose for Skyrim's Switch release. Music is one of my greatest passions, I'll do like six builds for this! Also, put me down for a build based on Billy Boyd's The Last Goodbye.

And now that you've said four we can probably expect eight builds for this Event :P I'll jot your name down Chris, and just let me know if you ever want some help looking over the builds :D

...I feel like not responding to you at the moment Phil...Badger's Bulges, what kinda weird. Can't deny that the badge looks pretty great (which is thanks to the Legendary EDANAAAAAAAAAAAA) but just...Badger's Bulges...just, :P

Will be very interested in seeing the build Phil, very, very interested indeed. Gotta love that interesting take on the idea by not being like us normies and going with some classical music :D

Honestly, if you asked half my family they'd say the time and place for Springsteen would be always and everywhere :P He's sort of the only thing that more than one person plays with any regularity so if there's an excuse to play Springsteen, then someone's gonna take it. But yeah, was originally going to do a Witcher (not Geralt, but just...in general) based build and use the entire soundtrack for The Witcher 3 as inspiration, but then I was like "Duh, Miracle of Sound exists", remember Lady of Worlds, and bam had to go with Ciri. Though I'm sorta tempted to go with Wake the White Wolf as well....

But yes, reasons for Ciri, are reasons that are good :P

Damn Wulf, hadn't even managed to respond to you yet :P Will pop by to see it after linking it, but already sounds great :D

*Edit, replace Take a Walk with The Last Goodbye. Fits the theme better, and Take a Walk's already been used in a Skyrim trailer. The Last Goodbye fits him better.

Especially ones possibly related to "research,".....You know, might do a Gaunter O'Dimm inspired build for this, song The Devil Went Down to Georgia https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X9uk9IcoQ0w and for the fourth, hmm, TBA.
