Heh, I've been drawn in *Super FATEBUILD TALK-MODE ACTIVAAAAAAAAAATE*

Me too man, after watching Fate/Apocrypha and playing some Grand Order there's about half a billion builds I want to make. There's Saber of Red which I only haven't started because I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to port the gameplay, Saber of Black's going to be bloody awesome, relatively easy to do and I just need the time for it. Then Grand Order has about 60124 characters that I want to play around with, so any servants, so little time.

Urgh man, but I think my next project is going to be an attempt at either Caster (Zero) or even trying to go two-fold on that and use both his Saber and Caster forms to create a really fun playstyle :D That, or I'm just going to go with Caster (Stay/Night)...Really keen to go with a Caster, and both Medea and Gilles are really fun

I actually tried my hand at a Gilles build, using a buffed Atronach Stone and Conjure Seekers. Let's see, I've got Medusa, Arturia, both Saber and Lancer, Caster Gilgamesh, and thats about it. I've also interpreted several ES characters as the Classes. Archer was originally gonna be Albie, but after chatting with Lis, she's an OC

Anyway, in terms of approach, is it best to go in with that building algorithm or let the game and where it takes you dictate the end result? Or maybe neither, that there's no right or wrong way?

Half and half, but really... just play and see where I go. I find myself going into the algorithm when I'm away from the computer and want to play the game but can't. Next best thing is to geek out planning it instead. It helps me get into the Zen of building xD

I used to spend a LOT of time on the Skyrim perk calculator mapping out perks and whatnot, but then I got Ordinator and I just haven't found anything like that, so now it's just look through the perks, see what looks good, and if I can add it I do. I've found that I've had way more fun playing it that way than when I'm clutching onto my master plan with a death-grip. Still, excessive planning has its upsides, and I still do it on occasion (especially for Crossworlds builds where specific perks really match a character skill set or trait).

While I like to have a bit of a plan, I've found that I have the most fun when I roll a bit more flexibly.

Yeah, I'm working on Urag, of course, but his playtest is done.

So I've been working on another Pure build, the Two-hander.

Radical, really looking forward to the Pure Two-Hander, anything that uses Two-Handed is great, but there are some really fun weapons there that I'm kind of hoping you run :D That and the horseback thing is awesome too

Well, lol, I may disappoint you as his rp is pretty heavy, which eliminates a lot of choices. I do have a certain battle axe of fiery souls though and a lovely weapon that Fralia Greymane gave to him for rescuing her son. Yeah, the build has changed a bit, though mounted combat is still huge.

I also toyed around with an Iskander build at one point

    What are Gilles and Iskander?
  • January 8, 2018

Characters from an anime called Fate that Chris and I are rather fond of (to say the least) specifically Fate/Zero. Imagine Gilles as a psychotic, mass-murdering mage and Iskander...well he's a rather boisterous conqueror who just wants a damn good battle, a lot of alcohol and an army at his back as he conquers the world. Fun stuff, plus there's Gilles' whole thing about summoning totally fucked up creatures (of which the Seekers are an excellent sort of fill-in for)...

Mercurias said: Depends on the build type, Paws. Vanilla Skyrim is so old that most of the builder types can map out and prioritize a build easily with few hiccups. Ordinator and mods change it a bit, though, and that requires a bit more experimentation. Typically I choose my skills and Roleplay focus on in advance, then play it all to the hilt. The Lightning Mage I’m working on, for example, focuses so much on his Destruction that I never used his Illusion spells, and rather than step back from the Roleplay I eliminated Illusion from the build. That sort of thing.

Thanks Merc :) So with your Lightning Mage, or any experimentation, what is the process you go through if something doesn't go to plan or you find something to be more useful than you started with? Do you restart or roll with the change?

Hmm, personally for me, I start builds off nowadays by planning off my mods, and that's really about it. Well usually, if I'm going with something that's going to need a little bit of planning because it focuses on gameplay, by that I mean something that's completely different to anything that can be done in Vanilla. Then I might need to plan out some perks early on, and tend to plan...

Well okay, so I think I'm sort of halfway between needing to fully plan everything at the start if it's heavily modded and just sort of going with the flow. With Vanilla builds I really don't need to plan anything other than the skills and general idea.

Thanks Deebs :) So with mods, are you focussing on gameplay overhauls when planning, like Ordinator, or do you mean immersion mods? Or is it both, would you say? How much now do mods define your character? I know that sounds weird. To explain, something like armour and housing can enhance the RP for me to the point in which it is those things that can prompt me to spend the most time planning.

Thanks Shin :) Man, I wonder how much it would cost to get that Ordinator Calculator programmed. Would be so useful if there isn't one. It's interesting that the mod has made you roll with it more, although the geeking when not at home out does have its advantages in keeping you hyped. Has there been a time when planning while away from the game and being super hyped for a concept, only to find yourself compltely changing the concept when actually starting the playthrough? What happens to the original concept? Like, do you go back to it eventually - cut it from another direction and try and make it work?

Hold on Deebs, you forgot the one thing Iskander was questing for....pants. I also toyed around with an Angra Mainyu based build, currently working on Berserker Frankenstein
